Still trying to fix dad's Mio Digiwalker 269+

Yes, you can. There was an unlock for the SD card but I don't have access to it anymore. Sorry.

EDIT: There were basically two. One called SD-Free which I am trying to work here and one for the SD card.

Can't believe I found this: [color="red"]I very strongly recommend that you d/l this immediately![/color]

Mirror: [Please Register or Login to download file]

Directions for Simple Unlock for c230 and possibly other 320x240 devices:

The directions are simple. Unzip the files into a folder on your computer. Copy the folder "Script", the file "autorun_ABC" and the text file "autorun_ABC" onto your SD card. Those files are for the unlock.

Put the SD card into your mio and do a hard startup. Miomap will start up like usual. Once it loads, simple do a soft shut down hitting the power button once and when the screen turns black hit it again. This will start the unlock.

You will see a promt to start the autotool (or something like that), hit "yes"

The unlock will start loading, then you will see a screen saying you successfully unlocked your device. Hit "ok"

The unlock will be running. From here you can load miomap, but miomap doesn't have an exit door you can see to close it and get back to the unlock. To solve this we simply "unhide" the exit door.

Unfortunately this means replacing a file in your data.zip, this is easy though and I provided the file in a folder called "Stuff to add exit door for miomap (Do not put on SD card)" This will be in the folder you unzipped onto your computer. In that folder you will see directions on how to make an exit door on miomap. This is nice because it allows you to exit or close miomap and go to the unlock. Once you replace that file, you will be able to run miomap and close it anytime you want. ** Directions come from kombits.com

Sadly this seems to be not working as expected.
Following the instructions I get nowhere. (On a sidenote: I don't have any miomap software on the Mio. Everything is gone from earlier clean-ups. So I don't have a data.zip for miomap on the device.) I've never had any MioMap v3 software, nor v3 maps.

Instead I experiemented a bit and got some different results.

1. Trying to use the unlock with the filenames as they are will not work on a 269+. Altering the filenames was necessary to make MP4 work and it seems needed here too. Just following the exact instructions on how to make MP4 work, sadly doesn't work either. As in renaming the two files to Oscar100DM.* and doing a cold boot, while holding Set and Volume Up. It just does nothing.

2. Renaming the two autorun files to miomap.* and putting them into a miomap folder on the sdcard of course makes the .exe accessible from within the default menu. Then it starts, but of course immediately runs into script errors, since all paths are wrong! All references are to \Storage Card\ ... . On the 269+ the path to the SDCard is NOT \Storage Card, but instead \SD Card\. The path \Storage Card\ refers to the internal 2.5 GB drive.

3. I did the same as #2, but I copied the dir \Scripts\ from the SDcard onto the \Storage Card\, only altering one path inside \Storage Card\Scripts\Main.ini; the one for iGO8. I of course set it to point to \SD Card\iGO8\igo8.exe (capitalisation of dirnames or filenames should not be an issue, since DOS/Windows never differentiate between the two, in contrast to Linux, where iGO8exe and igo8.exe are two separate files entirely). This worked a little bit better. The .exe started, but the only thing that happened, was that it removed the original menu and showed an empty desktop, apart from one shortcut to UsbMio.

4. This is where I started messing with it a bit. I hooked it up to my usb and copied yet another .lnk into the \Windows\Desktop dir, called (you probably guessed already ...) iGO8.lnk, with an edited path. Softreboot with the unlock files on SD (in miomap\miomap.exe), click Navigator, wait for "empty" desktop to appear, click iGO8 icon, wait ... wait ... wait ... "Application database not found"!!!

So like everytime else, I can get iGO8 to start, in many different ways actually, but I always get the same error message, app db not found. Easiest way is to simply put iGO8 on the SDcard, in miomap folder renaming igo8.exe to miomap.exe. Then I can completely power off and the only thing I need to do to "start" iGO8 is to click Navigator when the menu displays. If I didn't get the app-db-error, I guess I would have a working GPS with better-than-the-original software.

As it is now, it's a flashy paper weight.

Quickly, I am going to try and reinstall the original software and see if that still runs, at all.

First reinstall attempt failed miserably.
MioMap v2.0 setup program probably doesn't run very well on Windows 7.
It crashed, complaining about a missing library and when killing the process it spawned a million little windows about Access Violations. Ejecting the dvd made it simmer down a bit, so I could close it. then all the little pseky dialogues disappeared. Thank god.

Will try with WinXP in a bit. First must wash some clothes.

Sorry but I am completely out of ideas. It seems that you either have to live with the old maps from v 2.0 or buy a new device. You can't say that we didn't try.

Is there a package of MioMap v3 and maps anywhere? We never tried that. The maps will at least be a few years newer. iGO seems to be a NoGo for me :-)
When I have earlier tried Primo it complains about No Skin, or non-working display setup (screen resolution issue, maybe it doesn't run in 320x240?), but it doesn't complain about AppDB missing. Maybe it never gets that far in its boot process, killed earlier by the screen-res-error?

Running the MioMap setup on WinXP worked, but I can't use the "MioTransfer" option when copying the map from the dvd onto the device, despite the fact that I have a working ActiveSync connection. But as I've said before, this is probably the system does not recognise the device as a diskdrive, so it isn't accessible as a mapped letter. I instead chose "Copy to sd card" and just told it to copy the file onto a folder on my laptop. I can then use TC-WinCE to copy the Europe.map onto \Storage Card. Which will take a looooong time :-)

I don't think there is a package of v 3.3 and maps for MioMap. Those maps alone are more than 3 years old just by themselves. More than outdated. Instead of copying the entire Europe, wouldn't it be better just to copy your country and the surrounding ones?

I just realised that that is what you have on your system, then one you ripped out and gave me. I've never tried just putting that in a MioMap folder on the SD. Though I have no v3 maps.

True, but 3 years is better than 5.

Instead of copying the entire Europe, wouldn't it be better just to copy your country and the surrounding ones?

It seems the dvd only has a single .map file, with no option of copying smaller parts. Clicking the other areas in the setup program only gives a "This is not included" message.

It's still copying onto \Storage Card\ so it will be a while before I can verify if the old software still runs.
What I did was that I just copied back the old content from my backup of \Storage Card\, which held the \installation\ dir, which autostarts on each Power Off, effectively reinstalling the MioMap software on each Power On. Checking the Mio's content after such an install in TC-WinCe (or Explorer), I can see that it has pushed the Mio-software onto the \ (root) of the entire system, which is where you wanted your stuff to be. I'm guessing, with a lot of tinkering, we could have come up with a way to pack your stuff into a .cab and had this default reinstallation program instead of putting MioMapv2 there, it would put your files there. Sadly, without doing all that work, we wouldn't know if it would work when we were finished.

As it is now, I'm guessing it has a working v2 software system on it (can't verify until the map is copied) and as long as I don't Power Off or run out of battery, it will keep working and be "installed" as it is right now. This means that I can replace any and all files, within the current structure, and if I click Navigator, get the (root)\MIOMAP\miomap.exe of my choice to start. Pretty much what we've wanted to accomplish all the time. I don't know, however, if replacing it with iGO8 that annoying app-db-missing error will prevail. If I could get iGO8 to actually start that way, my only obstacle would be to at all times keep the gps fully charged, so it doesn't wipe the system. Unless we managed to do what I said above, replace the actual installation .cab.

Putting the Europe.map basically anywhere on the SDcard also seems to work!
It must have scanned the SD when it starts MioMapv2, since the ROM was updated to support 3.2 maps (IIRC).

I'm now trying to copy it onto \Storage Card\ just to see if I can reset it back to semi-original state.
Btw, here's a simple pack of the backup I made just now. [Please Register or Login to download file]
Just add .zip to unpack.

Now I am running the little WinCE-Exploer to see if it can copy the .map internally (\SD Card\ to \Storage Card\), since doing it with TC-WinCE failed.

I haven't tried putting your MioMap3 on the SD. Wonder if it is backwards compatible with v2 maps?

EDIT
Europe.map on \Storage Card\ works just fine. Good, not wasting space on SDcard. Will fit more music or pictures if one wants.
Your Mio_v3.3 in \SD Card\miomap\miomap.exe did absolutely nothing. It just fired up MioMapv2 as always.

LOL!
Failed Miov33 was because it wasn't the real miomap.exe it as trying to run. Renamed the miomap.orig.exe to miomap.exe and NOW it tried to start something else. It still fails, because it wants to start mio/320_240/loading.bmp, which isn't there.

It sure sounds like you know what you're doing. I don't have your device in front of me so it has to be entirely in your hands. Everyone here who have posted in reply to your thread have given you the best advice they could think of. I guess that all left to say is good luck and keep us informed regarding your efforts and results.

I did not follow up the thread, so I am way behind what happened.
So I don't know what you did, did not, succeeded or not and to what point. Sorry.

But I did a search on the internet. If this don't help you, maybe it will help some others.

Most comments I found concerning iGO and a 269+ is they unlocked the device and put iGO on an sd card.
Next renamed igo8.exe in miomap.exe. Then done a hard reset.
On the Net, I also found a working sys.txt for Mio 269+

[interface]
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1

[navigation]
sim_speed_factor=3

[sound]
ding=0

[timezone]
sync_os_timezone=0
reset_os_timezone=0

[debug]
skip_eula=1

[tmc]
com_port=1
com_port_speed=57600

Now Howto unlock a Mio 269+? ([color="#ff0000"]AT YOUR OWN RISK!!)
ONLY FOR THE PLUS VERSIONS!!!!!!![/color]

* Start MioMap, POI-Warner starts automatically
* Press on the green square( POI-Warner), hold until a menu appears, go with the pen (keep the pen on screen!) to POI-Warner, then remove pen from screen.
* In POI-Warner choose 'File' -> 'Profiles..'
* Profiles screen pops up, keyboard disappears
* click 'Ctl' (key turns black) then 'Esc'
* Windows startmenu appears
* choose 'Programs' -> 'Windows Explorer' ...

Now you can install what you like, easiest way is possibly to use an sd card. Miotransfer will copy to '\Storage Card\Mp3', '\Storage Card\My Picture', '\SD Card\Mp3' or '\SD Card\My Picture' depending on preselections in MioTransfer

No worries. Thank you for pitching in. I have handed the device back to my father, for now.
It is working fine as "original" as possible, apart from the ROM update, allowing it to access .map files on the SD (pity I don't have any v3 MioMap maps, or I would have tried that too at the very end). MP3 player and Picture Viewer restored to their original working state. I copied the Europe.map onto the internal \Storage Card\ and put a bunch of music and pics of my kids on the SD for them :-)

But I did a search on the internet. If this don't help you, maybe it will help some others.

Yes, this is the "basic" and pretty much only thing that should be needed. Sadly I keep coming back with 'App DB not found' errors. This is silly after so much time, but I haven't tried any other iGO8 packages than the one chas so galantly provided. It's been so long, that I don't remember if it is the same pack as is/was recommended here on NaviTotal, but it probably is.

On the Net, I also found a working sys.txt for Mio 269+

[debug]
skip_eula=1

[tmc]

Yup, I too found sys.txt examples elsewhere, that were either as simple as this or sometimes a lot shorter. No matter what I edited, though, the same AppDBerror hit me.

Not seen/tried this way of unlocking, but just unlocking to access the internal filesystem was never my problem; I managed that in several ways.

Now you can install what you like, easiest way is possibly to use an sd card.

If I only knew what to install that would work. :-)

Miotransfer will copy to '\Storage Card\Mp3', '\Storage Card\My Picture', '\SD Card\Mp3' or '\SD Card\My Picture' depending on preselections in MioTransfer

MioTransfer never really liked me :-/ But I guess for putting mp3/jpg on the \Storage Card\, my parents can use it if they like. Though, just using the SDcard for that is a lot easier, since they have cardreaders in their computers.

Leaving the device as it is, is one alternative, another is to look at other GPS programs. Here we've been so focused on iGO8 since it should work fine and works for the people who've tried to help. It feels like there should be others, that will run on WinCE 4.2 with 320x240 res, which still carry recent or even current maps. TomTom perhaps? I use TT on my Xperia X1 WindowsMobile, a pretty decent program, if I may say so. Quite easy to find maps too, but perhaps those aren't compatible with such an old device?

I must say, I am greatly appreciative of the helpful and friendly approach here on NaviTotal (apart from the "shooting threat" haha, j/k). I wish you all a nice weekend.

I'll be back.

I should prepare an SD here at home and bring with me next time I visit my parents :-)
