Yes, when I was copying the latest version of iGo to it, I spotted the speed reading at about 1mb a second. It sometimes fluctuated up to 2mb, but it didn't last long. Sometimes it dropped to about 900kb.

I'm going to assume it's a crappy SD and try another. It might not fix the problem though.

Regardless, I've got my eye on another device. TMC, 3G loaded.

It's worth a try, sounds like you have one of those Chinese clone sd cards that are rubbish.
And bear in mind wince error messages are not exactly helpful.

Whether a better card helps I don't know but it's worth a try.

I'm not convinced it will, but I'm willing to try anything at the moment. I hooked my old device up to my car and checked some of the details regarding that device. My worst fears were met, my 3G loaded device has a very memory heavy interface, as I said before:
There is a total memory of 106.57MB,
With just the interface and Process Explorer running, 40% of the memory is used!! Only 65MB is left for iGo which isn't much.

On the other device, there is a total memory of 113.61MB.
Only 16% of the memory is used for the interface + Process Explorer, which means there's a healthy 95MB for iGo to work with.

Looks like this device was crippled from the start. It functions perfectly as a Sat Nav, and it functions perfectly as an Online Browser, but just asking it to go that little further and do Sat Nav + Online Traffic is too much it seems. Hard to believe seeing as I can't work out exactly what extra processing cycles are involved in Online Traffic... it's downloading a bunch of textual data?????

Regardless, I have a class 10 SD here and I'm going to load Primo 2.4 with a bog standard Sys.Txt

If it crashes, we know the answer.

Load up resinfo and see what processes can be killed, you may lose some functions that are not necessary for navigation, but you can normally restart then afterwards.

You might need toolhelp.dll.

Whats toolhelp.dll?

I had a crack at closing some processes. Obviously the biggest one is the interface, but if I close that I lose sound from the Sat Nav (Radio continues to function)

It's a dll that you might need to view/kill processes, resinfo doesn't run without it.

Ah okay, yeah Process Explorer has it. That's what I usually use to kill processes, but I'll dump it in the resinfo folder too. I'm not sure there's much we can do though, this one might be just a bad unit for this job.

The main problem is, I can't see where it's crashing. iGo's crash logs are quite horrifically poor. It needs to dump relevant data, the function name, a proper trace of why it's crashed etc. I find they lack any kind of relevant data. Memory addresses aren't useful for the average hacker.

Interestingly, I've noticed with the current device that if I close the main interface, there is no WinCE interface... at all. My old one, you could close the interface, and I would get a blue background with the WinCE logo, a bit like a desktop, not on the new one. Perhaps there is some missing API's and it simply can't get past that Either way it's annoying

Sometimes the desktop is left out of Windows ce completely, but on some devices running explorer.exe manually starts it.

Resinfo, process explorer, same thing.

Tried a new SD. The software is snappy and the maps load loads quicker but unfortunately, it still seems to be crashing. It's only happened once so far but for me, that's proof that this device isn't going to work with online traffic.

I guess it's pot luck, sometimes these things work, sometimes they don't. I still haven't worked out what the issue is but I'm taking a particular interest in another device with dual Rom.

OK, so a memory hacked version worked for about 45 minutes, which I suppose is a good sign. I'll give that a go over the next day or so. First sign of crashing, and it's over. I know some will say it's pedantic to want Live Traffic this much, but that is what I paid for, I bought a 3G model, so I could use Live Traffic. I may as well, sell it, get as much back if I can, and then buy one that actually works.

Like I said, I've got my eye on this TMC loaded version which has WiFi, 3G, etc but most importantly, it's a dual ROM, using the same build as my other Sat Nav and I think that's more appropriate as there is a reduction in RAM usage from the interface.

I've noticed my current model says WinCE 6 Build 0 which is weird, as it doesn't have a build number, whereas my other says WinCE 6 Build 3122.

I don't know if it's relevant but perhaps the ROM on the new one is a bit shakey, or buggy.

Regardless, I'm very tempted by this other model :)

Tried it again at lunch today on the way to pickup some sports gear. Crashed as I was parking the car :( Up to that point I was starting to think this might be the one. No. There's clearly a problem with using Online Traffic and this model of device. So I will sell it and grab myself the TMC + 3G version when I get an opportunity.

What a shame eh? For all the good things it does, it can't get a fairly simple one right :(

Has anyone else tried Online Traffic and found their device crashing? i'm thinking people with double din sat navs and tablet sat navs that probably don't have genuine iGo? Just asking...

I've queried the company about the WiFi/3G only model. TMC would be pretty cool though. Apparently, it just becomes secondary to online though, so maybe I should just get online :\

Got a second hand one nice and cheap. Winner :D
