That's the $64,000 question.

Well, I tried it quickly today and whoo, TMC works great... albeit slow. I didn't realize how slow TMC is compared to iGo's online service. That said, it'll be nice not to have to connect everytime. For those wondering, iGo Primo isn't stupid ;) if you're using Online + TMC, it'll try Online first and if that fails it'll use TMC. I think it will use TMC as well as Online but I think the Online events take priority.

One unfortunate thing is that my 3G dongle is not compatible with this unit :( It technically speaking wasn't compatible with the previous unit but it seemed to work okay. Unfortunately, it's not recognized in this one, so I'm going to have to buy another. The manufacturer want 36 dollars!!!!:bomb_mini: which is absolutely outrageous for just a dongle, so I'm going to take a punt and buy what I think maybe a compatible one off eBay for £9.99. It's an unbranded 3G dongle with the same chipset. Surely the manufacturer are simply selling unbranded dongles, nothing special right? After all, they claimed my previous head unit would only work with theirs and it plugged along just fine with mine!!

Anyway, seems to be a positive result all around. The WinCE is also noticeably more stable on this unit than my previous one. I loaded the volatile 2.4 that I was using and it didn't crash when viewing historical traffic events (a sure fire killer on my previous model).

Boom. Good results all around I think. I will post photos when the unit is fitted. Just waiting for a antenna splitter so I can use my car antenna for both radio and TMC (yes it can be done, just needs a booster which I already have). Probably fitted this weekend. I'm in an excellent mood now :D

Honestly, no.

But I would imagine like with WiFi dongles, the chipset makes all the difference.

Yeah I think this is true:

This is the dongle they sell for £22:

Erisin's ES166:

The closest I found looks wise was this on eBay which is half the price. Maybe I should just buy the proper one lol:

This uses the MSM 6280 which may be the required chipset, but I don't know.

If not, I'll just buy the £22 one lol.

I'll be really grateful for any help you can provide.

I have no idea, but at £22 I'd just buy the official one.

It's possible the device driver looks for the device's usb name, so a different name means it won't work, even if it's the same chipset.

According to forums those cases are fairly generic so it's not possible to determine the chipset.

Incredibly, I thought I'd fixed it on the other head unit. There was a rogue dll which I thought was causing it. Unfortunately, after an hour, the unit reset again.
