TMC from FM RDS signal

TMC from FM RDS signal

Postby Claus71 » Mon Oct 07, 2013 2:14 pm

Hello,
I have a chinese 2Din head unit running Wince6.0 and would like to know if it is possible to get the RDS signal to the Igo Primo 2.4. the head unit does not have a TMC module, but the FM radio has RDS, and I have seen in a thread else where, that someone made it working for smartphones.

This is my device: [Please Register or Login to download file]

I am looking so much forward to get it working, if possible.

Best wishes.

First question: Is the radio part of Windows, If not, this won't be possible.

If yes, I did manage to get it working on a Windows mobile pda with powerradio, ONCE!

You will probably find the first scenario is the case though.

Thank you for your answer. I think the radio is a part of Windows, but not sure how to check it. The radio is selected via the touchscreen like the other programs running on it.

There are apps over at XDA developers that can pull tmc data from hardware fm radio's and forward it to a com port for other apps to use

There will be for Windows mobile, so will probably need a bit of work with dll's to get running.

However I suspect the fm radio is not part of Windows ce.

Thinking about it, I very much doubt the raw radio output containing the rds data is routed through wince.

Are you able to start the radio from an explorer window on the device?

I don't see an ordinary Windows startup screen, when swithing on the unit. The unit goes directly into a menu of choices (navi/tools/media/radio etc.) Do you think that there is a way to get to the Wince 6.0 ?

Normally, the unit runs a custom os for the radio/cd etc, and Windows ce runs in the background for navigation and sometimes mp3's.

There will be a hardware sound mixer to combine the sound output from both.

So therefore, even though it looks like everything is controlled from Windows ce, it's really two separate systems.

In this configuration there will be no way to get at the rds data from within Windows ce.
