TMC Question.

Mon May 07, 2012 7:31 pm

Hi all,

Hopefully, someone will be able to help me out.

I have an unbranded chinese 5" device, running Primo 2.

Would I be able to get TMC working by buying a mini USB TMC receiver, such as ones available for TomTom etc.?

I have the UK TMC files in Primo 2.

Many thanks in advance.

It depends whether the device has the drivers for a TMC module, and a com port set up to route the data to the software.

Would it be easy to set up if I could find the drivers? Also running WinCE 6!!

Alan

It has a built in FM transmitter, but wouldn't know about the drivers for a receiver.

I found this item, [Please Register or Login to download file] which says plug and play, and was wondering if something like it would suffice?

You would need the drivers for the particular TMC module...

LS9 is an integrated FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) receiver and antenna. It can receive and decode TMC information efficiently and output data with LOCOSYS AdvanceTMC Protocol which is NMEA-like compatible. The receiver also acts as a power bridge between CLA (Cigarette Lighter Adaptor) and PND. From this power bridge, LS9 also takes its needed power supply.
Combined LS9 with compatible PND (Personal Navigation Device) can alert the driver of a problem, such as traffic tie-ups, on the planned route and calculate an alternative route avoid the incident. This makes the dynamic route guidance reality.

Does iGO support this protocol?
Is your device compatible?

Unless you can answer yes to both questions then i doubt it will work.

I have just about every known gpstmc.dll for iGo/Primo, and none of them say anything like "Locosys". Most are AVANTEQ or GNS. All are NMEA compatible, but I don't know what "NMEA-like" means.
Unless somebody here has already tried that device and has some result, I would give it...based on the information given... a 50/50 chance. At best.
Before purchase, I would definitely try to contact the company and ask them directly about compatibility, but with a no-brand Chinese unit, even they are unlikely to confirm anything.
