TTS on primo

Postby dannyu » Thu Nov 04, 2010 9:15 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to make TTS (English US/UK with street names announced) working
on the latest Primo vesrion I have (8.5.11.155811), but so far without success.

My igo-8 is working fine and an earlier version of Primo (which someone
from Australia uploaded) also runs.

I may the same problem on Amigo but it's on my second priority right now.
I've checked the differences between the versions, copied some files, but as said,
so far it's not working.

Any idea/suggestion would be appriciated,
Thank you,
Danny

Yes I do Danny. But are you trying to get the Loquendo voices to work on Primo?

EDIT: What GPS device are you talking about?

Yes, it the Loquendo voices I'm trying to set.
It's the same situation on both my MIO C310 and 320.

There must be an explanation to this behaviour.

Thanks,
Danny

Yes Danny, Fatboyfun is exactly correct. You must add that line in the voices. Did you download my TTS_LOQ English package and the English voices? http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?912-TTS-voices Also did you download my Amigo working on my device? Pay attention to the red edit. http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2855-Amigo-complete-with-TTS-no-content-480_272

Thank you, Chas521 & Fatboyfun,

I've checked and verified that the line in info.ini file does appear.
I'm using the voices from the link you indicated, Chas.
I'm downloading now the Amigo with TTS which Chas indicated & also Golf_Swing and will test it.
Does it mean that only Susan voice needs to appear? On the IGO8 there are some voice (male & female and all
are functioning).

Thanks, I'll report back soon,
Danny

Yes in Amigo. Only Susan's voice will appear. I explained what happened in my red edit at the post.

Thank you, Chas521

Now I'm completely puzzeled.
I've managed to set my Amigo version to work with TTS (street names announced) by using your Amigo+TTS version. I've also added Dave's files and got an extra voice working both fine.

Why am I puzzeled?
Analyzing the current working version I realized that:

1. In sys.txt there are no TTS section nor any of the related lines ofcourse. In fact I haven't added anything to the
file which was included in the version I downloaded.
2. There is no info.ini file as well, so obviously the lines you mentioned in your post
[tts]
tts_engine="loquendo"
do not appear either.

3. The folder tts_nu_v5 and it's content (which in included in my Primo) are not included either.

As Richard Berton said in "War of the worlds" - "...the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one... but still they come...". My version is working just fine without the above and 2 TTS voices (Susan and Dave). I haven't tested it actually while driving yet, but the voice test in "Settings/Regional" is working fine (it wasn't working before). I guess it'll proove OK when I'll test it in the car.

Are the above really redundant? why are they included in Primo and IGO-8 versions?
Does Amigo behave differently? I doubt.

In any case, it's very interesting and I want to get to the bottom of it.
I hope to have some findings and will update.

Thank you,
Danny

Danny, to find the info.ini to put that line in you have to go to primo/contents/voice and click on the voice you want to use. when you click on it it will unzip and you will see the info.ini file for that voice and you will be able to edit it. In the info.ini file you only need to put this line in:- tts_engine="loquendo"

Thanks baz,

for some reason I thought that info.ini is located elsewhere.
As you said, the file exists in voice directory and this line appears - so nothing to add.

Danny,
Did you really read that post I wrote referred by link in Fatboyfun's above post or post #5 above? It clearly says that the tts_engine="loquendo" entry appears in the voice file in info.ini? Plus, I never said this: [tts] tts_engine="loquendo" for the sys.txt. I'm not so sure you read it.

Thank you, Chas521

It seems like I understood that these lines appears in sys.txt file (I think I saw an example in this forum).
I'll read the port you indicted again. If everything is as expected then I'm happy.
I thought that there was some kind of ubnormality between the NNG versions.

Thanks,
Danny

Danny - is your device run by winCE4.2 or winCE5. If so there are different dlls to make tts work. ie winCE4.2 dlls will not work with winCE5.

I think it's 4.2 on both C310 & 320.
I'll download the relevant DLL for both Wince version and perform a test just in case.

Thanks,
Danny
