unlocking a MIO MOOV 380

Postby dannyu » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:30 am

Hi,
A quick question to the forum's experts:

A friend who has a MIO MOOV 380 unit (GPS+cell phone) asked me to update his
NAV software (miomap 2008) to one of the new ones (Primo/Amigo).

As I'm not so familiar with cracks in general nor this type of device,
(and ofcourse don't want to mess it up) I'd appriciate any input about
the actions to be taken in order to get a full success.

Is one of Xtyler's great unlocks would fit in this case?
If I do it all from the SD card, does it mean that in any case of a problem,
the unit can auotomatically restored after removing the SD and rebooting?

When the unit starts, first it's initializing the cell phone and after that, if required,
there is an icon for invoking the NAV program. The unit is running something called MIOMONK (it might be related to the cell phone portion of the unit).

Thank you all,
Danny

The MOOV series are not equal to to the MIO C series, that Xtylers made his famous unlocks for.
More, the MOOV's are different from where they are released/bought. A European is different from a Israeli version, which differs from a U.S., which differs from a Middle East and so on. Doing something wrong will brick the device.

Take a look at our unlock subforum : http://www.navitotal.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?139-GPS-Unlock
Dalanik is very capable in unlocks. He has set up a thread especially for Moov unlocks
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2086-Blue-unlock-Shell-for-Mio-Moov-All-Range-4-3-and-4-7

I suggest being careful and ask him all you need and want to know.

No unlock is required for Mio Moov 380 if you only want to run one or two navigation software on it.
You only need to edit the path of the mainshell.xml and mainshell.ini to the new software you want to load.
As I have been using this unit for sometime and tried several unlock versions by dalanik and miopockets. All ends up with problems due to moov firmware problems. You will not be able to connect to mass storage via USB and ends up using activesync.
Basically just copy the new software into the flash disk or storage card - just edit the path of the software in the 2 files using notepad. Ensure that your new software works on WinCe 5.0
Thats simple - You have a choice of using Sygic, Papago, TomTom, Igo, Primo and others but not garminXt

Unlocking is easy with Miopockets - but mioautorun functions has many problems.
As it was not meant for Mio Moov 380 with phone functions.
The Mio firmware R01 will be disrupted and causing MUI and ehpdata files to disfunction.
Ending up that the mass storage is not accessible by USB cable.
Works only with activesync. Causing internal file editing failures.
Moreover uses much of the rams - drains battery power fast.
Slows down the unit which has only 64k ram
The phone function will not function properly if not edited properly.
Looks nice like iphone - nice to try but not adviseable for prolong use.
Naturally will bricks the unit later cos' it cannot be shut down or all settings will be lost.
Don't cry when it bricks. I spent 3 hours trying to solve the problem.
More adviseable to do DOS programming. Creating more pages as similar to Tools, settings pages.
Well I have done it without much problems. I have 8 navigation softwares installed on flash disk and storage card.
Study the two mainshell files properly - creating the extra pages will not be much problems.

Thank you, Pecher

You enlighted me with your input. I thought it's not that simple.
I think it's better to leave the unit as is (Phone + NAV) rather than loose either one.
