Upgrade from version 8.3.2.93112 to 8.3.5.183522 question

Postby siberian » Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:22 pm

Recently upgraded to the above version but I seem unable to load my own pic (loading.bmp) in the branding.zip folder.

I took the exact same bmp picture, using WinZip replaced the iGo bmp image with my existing one and it says unable to open 800_480 bmp, program exiting.

Has something changed in this version from the previous one(s) or from my initial version? TIA

Oh yes it does!! You didn't do it correctly then. What did you do?
BTW, you already have a nice loading.bmp that I created. So what's this all about?

The wife wants a picture of our dogs which is what I had on my old version. What I did? I followed the instructions:

1) Created a 800_480 directory
2) Dumped in the loading.bmp of our dogs
3) created a night directory as is shown on the pic I posted above

and ran the program. Your nice picture appeared but not the dogs. If I missed something please let me know.

You did NOT delete the loading.bmp[s] in the ui_igo8 folders of the data and branding.zips. Read the sticky again. You now owe me two hundred beers! Also did you re-size the original picture to 800_480 and save it as loading.bmp?

The 800_480 directory I created in ui_igo8 directory was new it had no loading.bmp in it since it did not exist. The 480_272 directory was deleted.

But I do owe you 50 beers + 50 for all the other help as:

You can just delete any other loading.bmp's in the data and branding zip files (using Winrar) in the ui_igo8 folder.

You CAN, not you MUST and since you said futzing with the branding file etc. never really worked well (I FULLY agree), I assumed that I could just leave that folder as is especially since you stated it will take the 800_480 folder in ui_igo8 first. :)

Now as to the beers, if you plan on being up here mid July or late August we're going fishing. There's nothing like Alaska halibut and salmon fresh from the ocean or river with a cold Alaska White beer.

Let me know when to send to dogs to pick you up! Again thanx!

Perhaps I'll run into those gold mining guys that are on Discovery Channel. Again I say. Did you also delete the loading.bmp[s] in the data and branding.zips?

EDIT: Have you read this http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?962-How-To-s-Tutorials-and-Tweaks&p=2469#post2469 but I don't think it's written in stone.

Nope I didn't delete them but will do so and report back. BTW I did try and use my old branding zip from the previous version since I knew that one worked, but that one went nowhere.

I'd stay clear of those guys... remember this is Alaska not 90210... life is different up here... :)

DO NOT CHANGE/DELETE/ADD ANYTHING TO MY PROGRAM FOLDERS - BRANDING.ZIP. You can delete the loading.bmp safely. Remember what I said about walking and running! Do ONLY what I tell you!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to UNDERSTAND the full picture here. What plays with what, what files go with what. Why do the 3Dcars for example don't work with the new version. Why in the old version was only one car "selectable". What skins go with what ...?

I hear what you're saying, I'm trying to debug as much as I can so that the obvious is eliminated.

I deleted the loading.bmp from the data and your branding.zip folder and created a new directory as stated above. I'll try it tomorrow as the car is out.

Let me know when I can run, as if I ever want to load the rest of the US maps I'm going to run out of space on the 2GB card.

Thanx again

They should. The procedure to setup 3D Cars is exactly precisely the same in every version of iGo8 3.x.

Because you never had the files/folders/paths-in-sys.txt fully correct, and you gave up and stopped, and we all got exhausted.

Any skin that works in iGo8 3.x will work in all versions of iGo8 3.x.

I would suggest that you review all of the posts related to the last time you were trying to setup 3D Cars instead of posting basically the same question(s) over and over again in numerous new threads. Just look up your own posts from your profile and that will lead you back to all of those older posts/threads.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

OK great, thanx for that. The paths were correct as per:

work_dir="\StorageCard\igo8" ;location of 3dCars folder
mortscript="\StorageCard\igo8\Themechanger\MortScript.exe" ;location of MortScript.exe

but since we can ONLY do piece by piece instead of somewhere there being the entire picture of what is what and where, other than the elite few the rest of us stumble along.

Appreciate the help and sorry to have exhausted you, it was pretty painful on this side as well.

Not really.
Let's start completely over and this will be the 'final' configuration.
1) Delete whatever folders and files you have added relating to 3DCars...3Dcars folder, Themechanger folder, etc.
2) Delete whatever lines you have added to sys.txt relating to 3DCars, Mortscript, etc.
3) Download this :

[Please Register or Login to download file]

4) Extract the RAR file on your computer.
5) Copy the entire resulting 3DCars folder to your iGo8 folder...alone and by itself directly into the root of the iGo8 folder.
6) Open up your existing sys.txt and copy the following EXACTLY and paste it into sys.txt.
Code: Select all
[3dcar]
work_dir="\StorageCard\igo8"
mortscript="\StorageCard\igo8\3DCars\Themechanger\MortScript.exe"

7) That's it. If you did exactly as above, it should work.

(advanced setting)
IF you want/need to change the SIZE of the car on the map screen, add the following to sys.txt and adjust the numbers in all of the 'size' lines to suit. The numbers shown are the defaults..smaller numbers=smaller sizes.
Code: Select all
[map]
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=2500
3dcarsizemax=5000
3dcarsizemul=25000

If you are not concerned with the displayed size of the 3DCar, don't bother with it at all.

Note: the 3D cars work best with the diMka/Megaduck skin for iGo8 available here:
[Please Register or Login to download file]
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

OK, thank you for those pointers and I noted that the Mortscript should be inside the 3DCars directory.

Deleted the old 3DCar and Themechanger and modified the sys.txt as per your instructions. Here are the two lines in sys.txt:

[3dcar]
work_dir="\StorageCard\igo8"
mortscript="\StorageCard\igo8\3DCars\Themechanger\MortScript.exe"

This is what I now get.

1) Nav doesn't start automatically meaning it doesn't go straight to the map

2) ERROR OUT OF MEMORY, PAGE -1, CACHE = 0

Never gets to loading.bmp obviously. Any ideas?
