Using content for igo programs

Postby chas521 » Tue May 07, 2013 9:46 pm

I get many questions from members who want to be able to use single program content for other iGO programs so that they can save space. Here are the sys.txt entries to make to accomplish that. You want to put those entries in the other iGO programs. Notice that the content in this example is situated in the iGO8 program. Igo8 uses Loquendo voices so you would delete that bold entry to use in Primo 1.2 and higher since Primo uses NUANCE voices.

[folders]
has_secondary_root=0
sdcardpath="\Storage Card\IGO8"
maps="..\..\IGO8\content\map"
dem="..\..\IGO8\content\dem"
buildings="..\..\IGO8\content\building"
poi="..\..\IGO8\content\poi"
voice="..\..\IGO8\content\voice"

Obviously, your SD card may be named something else.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Since my content is not on SDcard, I've just removed the entry "sdcardpath="\Storage Card\IGO8"".

I tested it and it works smooth with:
Primo 1.2 (9.2.1.179499)
Primo 2.0 (9.6.5.211211)
Primo 2.4 (9.6.13.267029)

All my content is on SD in the Primo folder. It's shared and used by Primo, iGo and a Becker-iGo.
My sys.txt is

[folders]
content="\Storage Card\Primo\content"
has_secondary_root=0

I have similar setup as Nabi. This is the simplest way to share content between different versions of igo, primo, and other similar NNG software (e.g., amigo, becker, etc).

Of course, we should be aware of incompatible content (such as schemes, skins, TTS Pro voices etc.), and make sure to use such content appropriately.

To my opinion the only [folders] references required in sys.txt, when using bothe iGO8 and Primo, are:

1. Both iGO8 (in folder iGO8) and Primo (in folder Primo) are on the flash disk and the folder content is in the root of the SD-card.
The [folders] references in sys.txt are:

iGO8

[folders]
content="Storage Card\content"
app="My Flash Disk\iGO8"

Primo

[folders]
app="\My Flash Disk\Primo"
content="\Storage Card\content"
has_secondary_root=0

2. iGO8 (in folder iGO8) on the SD-card and Primo (in folder Primo) on the flash disk.
The {folders] references in sys.txt are:

iGO8

[folders]
content="Storage Card/content"
app="Storage Card/iGO8"

Primo

[folders]
app="\My Flash Disk\Primo"
content="\Storage Card\content"
has_secondary_root=0

Etc, etc.

Please note that Primo requires 2 extra folders (Cars and global_cfg) in the folder content:
-In folder skin, skins for iGO8 and Primo can be put. Just take care to select the correct one.
-The speedcam info can be used by both systems.
When switching from iGO8 to Primo and v.v. some delay is noticed as file speedcam.spdb is different for iGO and Primo (is rewritten)
-The files in all other folders can be used by both iGO8 and Primo
