The name of the folder where cars are should be moot as it's specified in sys.txt, As long as the name entered there is the same and in the specified directory it should be oK no? Meaning if I called it 3dCars in \SD card\igo8\ and the same is entered in sys.txt it should be OK, no? If I use your approach wouldn't I have to change the directory entry in sys.txt before every try?

As to turning the unit off, yes, of course. I remove the SD card bring it up to the Mac, edit it and slap it back in. Getting a good workout going up and down stairs :)

Thanx for your help

Any version 8.3 is OK. Where did you put the cars download - spell it out. MY approach is only to see what works. Once you have it, there will no reason to change anything further. Also remember to delete your save folder each time you try something new.

Cars went into:
SD Card\igo8\3dCars

sys.txt:
[3dcar]
work_dir="\SD Card\igo8" ;location of 3dCars folder
mortscript="\SD Card\igo8\Themechanger\MortScript.exe" ;location of MortScript.exe

Themechanger went into same directory as sys.txt and 3dCars

Skin zip went into
SD Card\igo8\content\skin

What save folder?

Wrong. 3d car entry is incorrect path. Should be SD card\igo8\3Dcars. Are you sure the name of your SD card is SD card - might be SDCard or even SDMMC. Save folder is in root of igo8.

Chas, I changed the sys.txt file to denote the 3Dcars subdirectory, as in \SD Card\igo8\3Dcars but no joy. Just a thought but should the UnRARed/Un-zipped files that comprise 3Dcars be all in a folder or as it is now just in 3Dcars?

What command would enable you to choose a particular "car"?

Yes, the SD card is called... SD Card.

The Save folder is in same directory as 3Dcars. I will delete.

OK, I deleted the save folder and I believe that this was part of the problem, as I'm able to now have the skin active. However when I try and select a 3D car it just sits there "scanning the folder". I realize that there's quite a lot of files in there, but how long before one should consider it - failed?

TIA

Instead of 3dCars, perhaps it is called Cars? BTW, did you try putting it in content\cars and changing the sys.txt? Remember, it's trial and error.

Yes and I followed those 3 days ago. Sys.txt was changed as described:

[3dCars]
work_dir="\SD CARD\iGO8\3dCars" ;location of 3dCars folder
mortscript="\SD CARD\iGO8\Themechanger\MortScript.exe" ;location of MortScript.exe

Map has been changed as per instructions:

3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin2500
3dcarsizemax=5000
3dcarsizemul=25000

Interface has the correct skin reference:

skin="ui_igo8"

So there you have it. And I have no clue as to what is wrong... Thanx

?? I thought you said you had not tried the diMka-Megaduck skin.

Actually, according to THAT skin, the correct sys.txt reference is skin="ui_igo8_da".
And the correct path shown is:
[3dcar]
work_dir="\SD Card\iGO8"

By adding \3dCars, you may be telling the system (and the skin) that the path is \SD CARD\iGO8\3dCars\3dCars.

And you have been activating/changing to the installed skins within the iGo settings once it is running, right?
And then restarting, right?
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

siberian wrote:SD CARD is what I called it

That does not necessarily mean it's correct. It has to be correct as far as what YOUR DEVICE calls it. It could be any of a half dozen things, and it's not good (or productive) to just guess. If you can connect the device (with the memory card inserted) to a PC by USB cable, or access a file manager ON the device, it would become obvious what the true internal name for your memory card is.
siberian wrote:ust to be clear though. Once you activate the skin (by going through a reboot) and select color option you should be able to see a screen as that portrayed in the download page with a selection of "cars" to select, correct?

Yes. If you are seeing no actual cars to pick from, and only have a blank screen, the skin cannot find the 3Dcars folder...possibly due to a path issue as described above.

From a quick Google search it appears the SD card is labelled StorageCard

Suppot:First,put the map SD card into the GPS card slot which is at the bottom of the front panel.Second,power on the unit and press GPS/NAVI button at the main menu,then enter the "Console" interface to find "Navigation setup" icon at the right bottom corner.Third,click the "Navigation setup" icon and then touch the middle red button on the right side of the screen,set the map path,the correct map path is"storagecard\Igo\igo8.exe"from the provided SD card.After finishing the map path setting,press the "ok" to end setting.Next,Go back to last interface of the "console"and press the icon"navigation"(the first one at the left buttom corner of the screen) to start the map installation.

[Please Register or Login to download file]

Change all references from SD CARD to StorageCard in the sys.txt and test again.

WinCE has hardwired names for disk drives, On some WinCE builds you can use %sdcard% only if the environment variables are set up and the application supports it.

Again thank you very much for all your help. I am truly confused here now.

1) SD Card has been changed to StorageCard.

2) All references in SYS.TXT to "SD Card" have been changed to StorageCard

3) Path to igo8.exe is correct (guess if not I wouldn't get any maps at all) at \StorageCard\igo8\igo8.exe

4) Skin, using diMkaWertVRV_1143b.zip in \StorageCard\igo8\content\skin

5) Cars, using 3dCars in location \StorageCard\igo8\

6) work_dir ="\StorageCard\igo8

I've tried \StorageCard\igo8 as well as \StorageCard\igo8\3dCars as well as \StorageCard\igo8\

It loads the skin, I select 3D and at the bottom I have 3D Cars, but when I select it it just says "Please Wait" and just never does anything.

So to recap. Device name is correct, directory and files seem to be where they should be, from what I gathered on the download site, the skin I'm using - diMkaWertVRV_1143b.zip, should be compatible with the 3dCars I've got, so I'm lost. If there's anything I've overlooked please let me know...

Thank you!

Did you place the 3DCars folder in the iGO8 directory?

If so then modify the sys.txt to...

[3dcar]
work_dir="\SD Card\iGO8"
mortscript="\SD Card\iGO8\3DCars\Themechanger\MortScript.exe"

Otherwise Mortscript.exe won't be found.

No, Themechanger is in \storagecard\igo8\themechanger

mortscript="\storagecard\igo8\Themechanger\MortScript.exe" ;location of MortScript.exe

it's not in 3dCars, that is in

\storagecard\igo8\3dCars

Are you saying the Themechanger folder should be in the 3dCars folder???

siberian wrote:And I keep repeating that I tried it and it doesn't work

But that was before Fatboyfun took the time to look up the correct name for your memory card to use in your path statements, no?
At one point you had everything working, but just were not seeing any cars to pick from. This was due to the path you had being wrong. The memory card NAME in your path was the only thing you had to change at that point. Now I really don't know where you are because I think you changed some other things along the way.

siberian wrote:FatBoyFun is saying that the Themechanger should be inside the 3dCar folder?!!?!

No, he did not say that exactly. He was only doing his best to try to guess where you had put things in your folder structure.
It really does not matter where ANY of the Car/Themechanger/Mortscript folders or EXE files are, as long as you state the correct actual PATH to them in sys.txt.
You can't just make up a path or change it to what somebody says who cannot see what you have done or where you have put things, it has to be what and where the folders and EXE files actually physically are.

OH and by the way (this tip from Chas521), when you finally do get a 3D Car to pick from, be sure you are in 3D Map view in the map settings also. Cars will not show on the map screen if you are in 2D view.

I'm sure you will get it all figured out eventually.
Please post when you do so I can close this thread.

OK will give this one last try. Here is what I'm working with.

Logical pointing to igo8.exe is correct as shown in system Console

Card name = storagecard (I'm assuming it's not case sensitive) as stated on the Maisun site and as per FatboyFun (thank you again)

Skin file used is the duck99 as in: dimkaMegaduck_1143.rar (which supports 800x480 as well as 3dCars)
The UNRARed file place in \storagecard\igo8\content\skin is diMkaspecter.zip

Cars file is the 3D one: 3DCars_1_3.rar (no ZIP file on UNRAR)

sys.txt relevant variables in accordance with instructions on download file:

Installing 3D Cars:

Extract the 3D Cras folder from the .RAR file and placxe it in the iGO8 folder.

Add to sys.txt:

[3dcar]
work_dir="\SD Card\iGO8" location of 3dCars folder
mortscript="\SD Card\iGO8\Themechanger\MortScript.exe" ;location of MortScript.exe

Alter the following section in sys.txt to change the size of the 3D Cars:

[map]
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=2500
3dcarsizemax=5000
3dcarsizemul=25000

Following above instructions this gives:

work_dir="\storagecard\iGo8"
(I have tried both "\storagecard\iGo8\3dCars" and without specifying the 3dCars folder)

mortscript="\storagecard\iGO8\Themechanger\MortScript.exe" ;location of MortScript.exe

Remainder of parameters i.e. 3dcarsizemul etc. left as specified in the above as defaults.

SAVE folder's content was deleted prior to test.

I will post result later today. Thank you again for your help/patience

If you have the 3DCars folder in the iGO8 folder (iGO8\3DCars\) then use these lines.

work_dir="\StorageCard\iGO8"
mortscript="\StorageCard\iGO8\3DCars\Themechanger\Mortscript.exe"

It looks like the instructions are wrong.
