No voice guidance on iGo8.3 and WinCE5.0

No voice guidance on iGo8.3 and WinCE5.0

Postby siberian » Sun Apr 08, 2012 6:01 pm

Been a while since I installed iGo8.3 but I never really had a call to actually use the GPS. Yesterday the wife took her car and entered a destination, which was accepted and the destination was shown on the screen. However no voice guidance to the destination was heard. Yes, I made sure the volume etc. was set correctly.

I went through all the set-ups. In the voice selection I selected "Amy", but I recall when I set it up the first time, I got a sample of the voice. This time I got no error but also no voice sample. In none of the attempts to select a different voice was there a sample of the voice provided and of course no voice guidance was given.

I assume that once the destination is entered and the route calculated that it would start you off with "turn whatever and drive whatever distance". No option could make the voice prompt appear.

No files were changed or modified since the initial install, running WinCE5. Must have died of boredom. Any ideas? TIA

Aside from the voice, are you getting any other sounds from the device?
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Yes, sorry I should have mentioned that. All other functions are normal. Meaning radio, SD card (music), etc. all function with normal audio.

Here is a copy of my SYS.TXT. I do notice that I don't have a VOICE logical defined in that file under "folders" but then again I never did but it's just something to point out.

Thank you for any suggestions/help, since it's the wife's car it's of course the most important item on the planet at the moment...

I should also mention since I"m not sure it's a dual audio device and thus the voice command MAY not come through if the radio is on (would be weird but...), I did select an input with nothing connected to it to ensure no audio would mask it and I still get nothing. BT also works with it cutting out the radio when an incoming call is detected. It's just the voice guidance that is dead.

Thank you again for any help

If I remember correctly you're using my IGO8 program that you downloaded here. If that's so, then you should be using my sys.txt. Any entries made by you should be ONLY for your device. If you are not using my program, then I can't help you.

Thanx for your reply Chas.

I don't know if it's your program but I will give your SYS.TXT a try and see if that cures it. I got the iGo8.3 from a friend (also a member of this forum but I don't know where he got it from).

I"ll let you know. Thank you again

Good luck. Just know that your sys.txt is NOT mine and it's lacking plus the iGO8 program you're using is probably not mine either so you're on your own!

I tried using your sys.txt and it just bombed despite changing the resolution to my screen size. Perhaps you could tell me what is lacking. As I recall things added were the 3D car folder but what is weird is that everything functions - down to the 3d car selection, map, location, search etc. just no voice assist. I removed:

[sound]
sound_q_length=200
queue_length=200
ding=0

thinking it perhaps was causing it as the only sound related item I could see, but nothing changed. Is there anything that you see in my sys.txt file that you find strange or odd or that would ONLY affect the sound of the Navigation?

Lastly do I remember correctly that when you select a "voice" you get a short sample of the voice? If so, as I said I don't get any voice samples.

The zipped files I have in the igo8\content\VOICE are (file sizes are listed for each):

Voice_Eng-us-f1.zip ---- 908KB
Voice_Eng-us-m1.zip ---- 800KB
Voice_Eng-us-m2.zip ---- 1.2MB
Voice_Eng-us-m3.zip ---- 2.1MB
Voice_Eng-us-m4.zip ---- 1.7MB

Do you happen to have any Voice files I could try to see whether it's perhaps these files that are causing the problem or where I could find a sample to test?

Thank you for your help

Sorry, I meant within the navigation program while it is running...like key press sounds, alarm sounds, any sound at all besides the voice that the navigation software should produce?

Not sure there are any sounds as I've only tested it from "start point" and entered a destination expecting the "please drive to the nearest road" since I'm 3 miles from any paved road :).

But I'll check tomorrow as I've got the car on ramps to change out oil, filters etc. I'll report back tomorrow. Thank you again for your help!

@siberian

I'll be perfectly honest with you. Normally, I wouldn't bother trying to help anyone who gets a program from another place and comes here to make it work because they are having a problem. Any mod[s] here who uploads anything for the members have completely tested the upload and found it to be 100% good. This is why Navitotal is better than the other GPS forums because all our mod uploads work! Going somewhere else will only cause a possible malfunction and the member will pay for it in the end. You came here for our help which is a good move by you. Now I ask you are you willing to delete your friend's program and download something that works from here?

Chas, to be honest I have no idea whether he got the program from here or not but I'll ask. I apologize in advance should this program not be from this Forum and have thus wasted your time.

I'll poke around some more after I finish doing the maintenance on the vehicle and get it off the ramp.

Thanx again for your help.

To begin with, you're not wasting my time. We are here to help you. I remember messaging you with the iGO8 link a while ago but I don't know what happened after that. You never told me.

I remember and e-mail exchange as I couldn't post initially, which you helped me by pointing me into the right forum. Can't recall the one you mention.

I'll get back with you as soon as I finish, again thank you!
