The only group I can post thank in, or post, is the "general discussion". If any Mods. read this can they tell me why this is.
I recently wanted to post in a topic started by "nabi" referring to the lack of courtesy in replying when downloading programs.
As has been shown this is not appreciated by posters and those that don't show their thanks alienate the posters and restrict the usefulness of the forum for other members.
So posters there are members who really appreciate what you do but for some of us, like me, we cannot show thanks because this facility is unavailable.

Thanks for your post. Same issue for me (for many threads).

Since we want to keep the forums clean, members can write (on Igo section) only in the general section. A moderator will move a relevant post to the relevant section.
Since those sub forums are "write protected", the option of clicking "thanks" is disabled as well...

Thanks for your reply "filesupload100". I started this thread in response to "nabis" thread which was closed because of the number of viewings/downloads with only one thanks. I agreed with his disquiet at apparently being taken for granted but now it appears that the only way to give thanks is to visit this thread and post a message.
If you are reading this thread "nabi", i completely understand your reasons for closing the download but as you probably realise it is a very popular download and a lot of people are now very disappointed at its closure, so if possible could please reupload. Thankyou

A.
The option to post in subforums was disabled year sago, when became clear that users post anything everywhere. Also take into consideration that the iGO forum was much much busier than it is these days.
Those wild postings cluttered up the forum enormously and it was lots of work to move the post to an adequate spot. Since posting is only possible in the General Discussion Forum, it's easier for the team to keep things clean and uncluttered.
The "request" thread is a nice place to go trough the pages and see some of the the remains of "off-topic" postings. But that is just one thread to clean out from time to time.
B.
The option to say thanks is NOT disabled in the subforums.
If it were :
(1) how did potc - as one and only - thank me then for the upload of the latest Primo?
(2) how did I thank filesupload for his HERE 2014Q1 Europe maps just 1 minute ago? (this post :
maps-buildings-dem-poi-f82/europe-here-navteq-2014-t16120.html) And no, I did nothing special, only press the thanks button.
It's however true that a poster cannot thank himself.

I was a moderator here for many years - since the forum's inception - so I feel that I could comment here. First of all, it was NOT just Nabi's idea to limit where posts could be made. I also had a hand in that decision. Now let me tell you why. As has been said here more than once, the management [mods and such] whom control the forum are UNPAID VOLUNTEERS who have outside responsibilities such as you [the members] do. Our time is somewhat limited and as such we cannot spend 24/7 here. Members were posting in the incorrect sections a great deal of time which lead to chaos and confusion. Then to keep things in an orderly manner, a mod had to move the improper post to the correct section and thread and because of that wasted time we didn't always have the time to give the most excellent support that you expect here at Navitotal. So we had to do something and that was to keep the posts members made in a single place so a mod could move it to the proper place. I know it was kinda the same as before but now wasted time was reduced because the posts were now kept in one place rather than the mods having to search all the threads for them.
As for uploads, again more than once we have asked members who download to make mirrors of that download so the links don't die and remain viable. Good in theory but the members [very few] did make mirrors. It takes me a good 1/2 hour to upload one of my iGO programs and usually less than 5 minutes for a member to download it. I asked for mirrors but nothing was made. I made a torrent and asked the members to keep seeding but they never did. We love helping and uploading for you guys because we want you to have nothing but the best out there but can you blame us for getting disappointed? So please don't heap any blame Nabi's direction because he does a great job as do all the mods here!
Just wanted to explain to you out there so you completely understand that we are 100% on your side. A forum is only as good as its member's contributions and help. We're there for you so please be there for everyone else. Sorry for the rant. Thanks.

I may add that it may not have been my best decision ever to delete a successful link, but things considered, I do not regret it.
Think of the time I (we) wasted (re)uploading just to see our links die quicker and quicker and get small thanks for our pains.
Only leechers that come here to get a quick download and disappear again. I often ask myself why I keep doing this.

It was not my intention to upset any body and if i have done so i apologise.
I realise only too well the time and effort put in by the moderators and the feeling of despair when it appears people want everything for nothing without offering any thanks.
I am quite prepared to re-upload threads if i knew how to do it. Within the past few days i have asked how to do it and either filesupload100 or chas521, i believe, told me how. I cannot now locate the thread with the reply and wonder if a sticky thread on this subject could be posted. This then might jog others into gear to do the same thing.
Once again apologies if i upset anybody and i am sure there are more members that appreciate your input than don't.

@franka
There is no need for your apology. You're one of the members who help others. You were only expressing your opinion without being nasty. I was just explaining why we did what we did.
Perhaps one of the current mods would make a post on how to upload a file and make a "sticky" of it?
Members: If you see that an upload has been available for awhile, you can assume that its life [link] is nearing the end. So, please make another upload to keep it current. Thanks.

Well you can either look into what the guy is saying when he says he cant say thanks or you can keep thinking no one cares. I cant thank Filesupload either in this thread.
maps-buildings-dem-poi-f82/europe-here-navteq-2014-t16120.html Just like quite a few other threads.
Thank you.

The reply is here:
post130656.html#p130656@nabi, as an Ex Super Mod you can write/edit and thank (and more) on any section, this option is not available to other members, I have no idea how potc did it.
Take a look how your post looks to me, logged in as a regular member:
No "thanks" button.
Wed Aug 27, 2014 3:13 pm
Thanks filesupload100 for locating the thread for me.
Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:27 pm
I must say I am surprised and must admit that logged in as normal member, I can't thank.
.
I really did not know nor realize nobody could have given thanks. So my fault and I had no reason for being upset
But then, how could potc ??
Unless he was that quick and lucky that between posting and moving he succeeded. Must have.
Anyway, the link is back in place :
post130576.html#p130576I do apologize, I am very sorry
Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:30 pm
"posting and moving" what to where ???
It is your post, isn't it? you post it elsewhere and moved it to the programs section?
Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:35 pm
Correct.
Potc must have acted like a hungry dog jumping on fresh meat
Sorry potc, mean no offence, but you must have been quick
