go 530 not working?

Postby minterno » Fri Apr 15, 2011 5:45 pm

Hi guys, this is my first post on this forum so first of all i would like to say hi to everyone first so hi,im after getting a tomtom go530 from the brother but its not starting up properly,as it starts up i get a pic of the device with a memory card with a red x on it and thats as far as it will go,when i connect to either my laptop or desktop i keep getting the message device driver faild to install, yet when i check in the device manager it says the drivers are up to date and working,so i cant get in to the device and am stuck and could use some advice on where to go from here, the sat nav was never dropped or damaged so im hoping its just a software problem and if anyone has and ideas for me that would be great, cheers

On the bottom of the case, there is a small reset hole. Stick a small wire or paper clip in the hole & hold it for thirty seconds, then try to connect to your computer.

Try to remove all other USB devices and try again and try all USB ports also or try other computer if you have....
device driver error can be USB power problem too...

thanka PiEtU,i have tried all the usb ports but still no joy,i think its a problem with the sat nav as i have a laptop and a pc and still no joy and my brother had the same problem with his pc but thought it might be the computer being so old and outdated, the same problem on 3 different computers points to the device being the problem, its not being recognised as a usb mass storage device so i cant get into it to see if its a software problem, the unit is about 2 years old and was only used twice for about an hour each time so it would be a right bummer if its crokked.regards

you have SD-Card slot your device?, try to connect tomtom with sd-card...if you have luck it works with sd-card and you can install all to card

you were spot on with trying the memory card PiEtU,i took the card out of my nuvi1310 put in in an adaptor as its a mini one and bingo, the tomtom software recognised it and loaded in a lot of updates, now the card has garmin maps on it and i think it was just the card in the slot and not the dummy one that was in there that activated the tomtom, now all i need is to find out how to load the maps and pick the right ones, thanks a bunch for all the help,i thought it was a gonner for a while and am relieved to see a bit of life in it,happy days, regards

i used the micro memory card from my garmin nuvi 1310 in an adaptor and inserted it in to the tomtom and when i restarted the tomtom, tomtom home which was open at the time recognised the device and asked if i wanted to update the tomtom, which i did, prior to this i had a dummy memory card that came with the tomtom in the device.i still may have problems as the tomtom home updates installed to the memory card and not the tomtom disc, when i figure what maps i need i will install them on the memory card and hope i can either put them on the tomtom root or see if the maps will work from the memory card,i still cant get in to the tomtom hard disc,im like a blindman at the moment, feeling my way about,a few hours ago it wouldn't turn on,now its on and asking for maps,ie telling me no maps are found, tomorrow i will install the maps if i can and see what happens, thanks for the help tendriver, time for bed here, good night

1. Are you trying to access the internal memory with Windows Explorer?
2. So you can breath a little easier, when a card, that has a navcore & map loaded on it, is inserted into the device, the card becomes the default memory. If the internal memory is bad, it's no big deal, as long as the unit recognizes the card.

sorry for the delay in answering you but i was out all day at a funeral and am not back long, to answer yor questions,'1. Are you trying to access the internal memory with Windows Explorer,i cant get in to the device at all, either there is a faulty disc in the tomtom or software issues,it wont reset either.
2when a card, that has a navcore & map loaded on it, is inserted into the device, the card becomes the default memory. If the internal memory is bad, it's no big deal, this is what i am hoping for,i will try the maps on the card when i figure out how and what map i need, regards

You could ask!!

When you attempt to start the 530 while it's in it's charging cradle, which is plugged into your computer, does the 530 ask if you want to connect to the computer?
