720 Battery Life with Nav 9500

I have installed the Nav 9500 on my 720 in the last few days together with Uk map 905.4754. I have also installed the ASR files from navcore 9465.

All seems to be working OK except that the battery life has been cut by about 50%. Has anyone any suggestion why this has occurred. I replaced the battery a few months back which extended the battery life from around 20minutes to 3 hours.

I notice with the 9500 navcore that the volume is stronger and the display seems to me to be a richer colour than the previous 9465 navcore. I wonder if these factors are any indication of the shortened battery life.

AFAIK, you are the first to post this issue. If the volume % level, map colors and emu are set the same, and both navcores were patched with the same patcher, there should be no difference.

I have used the latest Fastactivate patcher for the 9500 but the previous navcore was no doubt patched with an earlier version of Fastactivate.

Would the 'config' setting make any difference say from an x40 to an x50 ?. Or should the setting be on X20 for my 720 ?.

And just in case I am barking up the wrong tree, my low battery life observation is NOT based on completing an actual 3 hour on the road journey as yet, but is based on running a demo of a journey that I know takes me around 3 hours actual. In this mode the battery 'dies' after about 1.5 hrs.

Battery life depends on:
1. sound volume and amount of commands played
2. brightness of the screen
3. running extras like BT and FM
4. age and health of the battery

Comparing those with a different NC is almost impossible as you rarely get extact the same internal config.
For some NC, the touchscreen and brightness is "adjusted" by TT, same for general volume.
Since the use of a TT is basically limited to in car use the battery is not much more than a gimmick making sure all stays active if power is lost.

What was the reason to switch from nc 9465 to 9500.
If there was no real reason then the best is to switch back to nc 9465.

No particular reason for switching to the 9500 other than just to try it but I have to say that I like it so far !.

Yes I know 'Why change a winning team' and 'If it aint broke dont try and fix it' but then I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill . Theres one thing this site gives all of us and that is the confidence to experiment. And I just like experimenting.

Thanks for the advice Downunder. You may have given me the answer in so far as I had a couple of extra poi's working in the background that were giving me constant voice updates. That maybe what was depleting the battery life. I will turn them off and see what happens.
