Go 720 replacement mount

Postby ludespeedny » Thu May 09, 2013 1:29 pm

Recently the mount for my GPS cracked. Do you have any suggestions for a good replacement or any that you use that hold up well for you?

I use an air vent mount. There are several different models available.

I use an air vent mount for two reasons.
1. Your windshield visibility is not obstructed.
2. It is closer to you, therefore much easier to reach the touch screen.

I tried that one, but it was too flimsy. Also the clips would not stay hooked to the vent louvers.

I now have this 5 star heavy duty model. It cost a bit more, but you get what you pay for. [Please Register or Login to download file]

Utterly crap and does not survive one day in the bush: [Please Register or Login to download file]
Same by the way for the copies of the original suction mount.
Only models I found to be working fine are these for the ONE models: [Please Register or Login to download file]
And those for the GO models: [Please Register or Login to download file] - if you can opt for something with a shorter neck, could not find in the few minutes ;)

1. I agree!
2. DITTO
3. I would not be opposed to either of these, IF I wanted a windshield mount.

I know, not always legal in the US, they prefer heavy bean bags that hit you with the GPS LOL

Certainly agree with these points, I would also add:

3. Easier to read as your pupils do not need to accommodate looking at something not very bright against the bright (at least during the day) background of the windshield
4. The air passing from the vent (even if warm and certainly when cool) cools the unit which can get quite hot, thus improving performance (less electrical noise) and probably extending the life of the unit
5. Generally shorter distance between unit and anchor point, so less wobble and movement of the gooseneck and universal pivot joint

3. This was never an issue. I have always had day brightness set at 80% & nite brightness set at 10%.
4. Possible, but there is no data available to confirm this. My X20 doesn't even get warm, and certainly not hot, regardless of where it is mounted.
5. With the 5 star heavy duty vent mount, there is no wiggle or wobble. In all fairness, there was no wiggle/wobble with the original mount that can with the unit. The issue with it was the inability of the suction cup to maintain suction on the windshield or the dash top mounting disc.
