Hi Everyone,
First off, this site is such a wealth of knowledge, thanks.
I am trying to update our GO 720 with 940_5963 but it is failing with, "write error in the file USA_Canada 940_5963\poi.dat Probably the disk if full". Can anyone shed light on this? To the best of my knowledge I have followed the steps as outlined in the tutorials to the letter.
Thanks All

A GO720 has 2gb internal storage. And the size of the map you use is 1977mb. So al together it won't fit.
An option for you is to put the map on a 4gb SDHC card. Then you have more than enough free storage space availeble. If you want you can put more maps on your device.

Hi Shaman,
Thanks for the reply - appreciated.
I am really going to sound dumb here now. I assumed that the 720 have an internal storage of 2gb PLUS the storage of the SD card, is that correct? That being the case, I tried to load the map onto a spare 8gb card that I had lying around but when I did that, I go the same "probably out of space" error. I can be woefully thick on this stuff some times. What do you think I am doing wrong?
Thanks Again

That's correct

Do you use a cardreader tot copy the map to your SD-card or do you use your GO as cardreader?
Using a cardreader is the easiest way. Check if there are no bad sectors on the card and if it's really a 8gb card.

Hi and thanks,
I formatted the 8gb SD card and put in the card reader. Then I ran the installation file from the archive that I downloaded. It looked like this was running fine until I go that message about "disk is probably full".
Is there any way that I can simply copy the map onto the SD card instead of running the installation?

Yep. Download
USA_Canada_940_5963. Unzip it. Copy the unzipped folder to your SD card. Put FastActivate.exe & a copy of your ttgo.bif file on the sd card. Select option 2 to patch the map. Done!!

Thanks. I unzipped it but they is insufficient space on the 2GB card. Any idea if the GO 720 will accommodate a larger card?

1. What happened to the 8GB card Post 5 indicated you are using a .
2. If you have bootloader 5.5012 or higher, you can use any size SD/SDHC card. I run tests using a16GB in my 720.

Ohoh, you are out of my league all of a sudden.
Not sure what bootloader is. I did use the Universal Navcore Loader to load the proper navcore. Does the bootloader do something similar?
Getting to your question though, the TT starts up but doesn't really do anything other than so a picture of the unit and say TomTom GO 720 in the top right corner of the screen.
Thanks

Open your 720's ttgo.bif file using notepad. The 7th line down is the bootloader version. Example: BootLoaderVersion=55259

My bootloader is 55120. Is that really 5.5012, like yours is? If so, are we thinking that an 8gb card should work? That being the case, I must have garbled something along the line - do you agree?
Thanks

1. No, if your ttgo.bif file sez it is 5.5120, then that is what it actually is.
2. Yes.
3. What is on the 8GB card?

Hi,
There is nothing on the 8gb card - formatted it before I copied anything over. Onto that card I copied the unzipped folder called USA_Canada_940_5963. I then but a copy of Fastactivate on the card as well. The fastactivate is not within the USA_Canada_940_5963 folder though, should it be? Lastly, I put the TTGO.BIF file on the card, again though, not within the USA_Canada_940_5963 folder.
Anything jump out at you?
Thanks

1. OK.
2. We NEVER recommend formatting anything, except for the most severe cases!!
3. See my point 6 just below.
4. It doesn't matter.
5. OK.
6. Yeah. In #1 you say there isn't anything on the 8GB card. Then in #s 3, 4 & 5 you have loaded it up. Which is current, blank or loaded.

Hi,
I formatted the card before I copied over the files. Once formatted I copied the map folder (USA_Canada_940_5963), the BIF file, and the Fastactivate directory. So, to summarize, the card is loaded.
Thanks
