Go 730 touchscreen woes

Postby Hotpants » Wed Nov 12, 2014 7:41 pm

Hi all, my trusty 730 has started acting up. The right half of the touchscreen refuses to work. I have had to resort to using Tomtom Home to set destinations etc, and convert it to left hand use to operate when in the car. If I need to get to any menus, I'm screwed, and if I press something and cant get back to my route, have to do a hard reset with a pin.

I have tried cleaning around the bezel, but the problem seems to be increasing further across the screen :-(.

Is it fairly simple to get a replacement screen for it and fit it? I've replaced the battery in it before.

I'm loathe to buy a new one, as I like messing around with it :023:

Cheers

Oh dear. I followed the instructions, but managed to break the small retainer that holds the cable ribbon to the mainboard.

When I put it back together, nothing on screen at all, just black. If I plug power in, the green power light comes on. Ironically, the Bluetooth is still working!

I dont know whether to waste £20 odd on getting a new touchscreen if I cant hold the ribbon properly :-(

I don't recall you having any problems with the ribbon cable when you changed your battery, so you know you can do it. I had rather have your 730 than any of the new models.
Bottom line?? GO FOR IT!!

LOL thanks for the vote of confidence :046:

I'd rather have my 730 as well than the new models :023:

OK so a quick update. For some reason now the power light wont come on when the unit is turned on, and only shows power when in its cradle or with the in car charger. Still no screen working, but i haven't changed that yet.

If you are referring to the green light in the front lower right corner, that is the "charging light" and is only lit when the unit is connected to an external power source, like it's cradle or the in car charger.
