Add Traffic Live subscription!?

Add Traffic Live subscription!?

Postby coveiro24 » Fri Jun 18, 2021 2:55 pm

Hi

I have a tomtom go 930, without the live feature.
I read that I can use an USB adapter to add the RDS-TMC feature and have like a TomTom go 930T.

But my question is will the live feature work right away?
Or even after plug the cable in I have to have a subscription? And can the activator handle that?
Or I should find a modified traffic data file to work with the tomtom?

Thanks

You're confusing two very different systems:

A Go 930 'Live' device has an inbuilt SIM card wheras a standard Go 930 doesn't. If you have a 'Live' device, you can pay a subscription to TomTom who will send traffic updates to the device via text message. If you have a non-live model, this is obviously not possible.

The RDS-TMC system is a free (usually) radio broadcast service that send traffic updates to the device via a seperate aerial which is built into the USB charging cable. No subscription/activation is required and will work on the official navcore 9.541 which your device should be updated to. Notice the traffic bar on the right hand side of the following image:

Thanks. I was definitely confusing the 2 concepts.
OK so with my go 930, I just need to buy the adapter and it's plug in play and hopefully have traffic signal.
Thanks.

Yes, that's right

I think you're in France so make sure you read the RDS-TMC thread I linked you to download the 'Super TomTom MCTX file' created by roflmonster which will help with the French RDS-TMC systems
