Advise on TT Purchase

Thanks. Well I'd already ordered the unit (refurb from the US), having done some further searching it looks like it's going to have dumbed down menus and I'm going to have to be rather careful with navcores if I want the sound to work

GPS arrived, navcore is 9.150.554646.2 which appears to be dumbed down menus. It's okay so far although I'll probably have to change it to get speedcams working.

I installed 8.75 Australian maps and ran the Fast Activate thingy, wow you really are making it easy for us now. Thanks heaps

\Edit - installed speedcams from here, activated them with the FastActivate tool, and it worked, at least it notified me of the camera on a route demo

I drove with the unit today (XL350). The menus are almost adequate but there are a couple of things I miss:

-Auto power off when power is lost
-Warn when driving faster than a set speed

After some searching I managed to obtain some extra menu settings by using an SDKregistry folder with tomtom.mnu file placed in the root directory. The contents came from here. This at least let me control voice options to prevent the fellow from reading aloud street names etc.

I tried in vain last night to get navcores 9.026 and 9.205 running, but the unit would either stall during boot, or display the image sideways on the left half of the screen.
I manage to get navcore 9.101 running but it appears to look identical to the default 9.150.

That's were I'm at right now. Any ideas for a few extra menu items? Thanks

I know there are quite a few examples of the tomtom.mnu on the net.
Maybe it is worth to do good Google search to get your hands on may variation and examine them with Notepad++ to get more menu items that might be missing in your current tomtom.mnu.
There is barely anything available that explains all available items as they are undocumented by TT and the ones that I know so far are all "extracted" by checking the code inside the Navcores.
So it might be quite possible that there are menu files that only contains what the user needed - and that can change as we all know.

Just an update, I spent a long time playing with custom mnu files on the XL but still didn't manage to enable auto off with power lost or speed warnings. Still a decent GPS but annoying not to have those features I found so useful - even the Via has those!

Just today I came across a Go930 for a reasonable price and ordered it, I also ordered a compatible EasyPort mount from ebay which is very similar to the more recent models in that it sits almost flush on the back of the unit and has a rotating ring which increases suction on the cup.

As for its internals, I believe its very similar to the Go720. It has three hardware features I don't think I'll be able to use once I change to the 9x Navcore - Light Sensor, Enhanced Position Technology (EPT) and a bluetooth remote control. The later feature I find quite obscure, can't quite work out what one would use it for.

Downunder did you ever get the light sensor working with 9x Navcore? I liked that feature when going through tunnels. EPT would be handy for that too.

Edit - looking at the comparison chart [Please Register or Login to download file] it seems that the Go940 and Go950 had EPT running on Navcore 9.054. AFAIK those models also had light sensors. I shall try that Navcore when the unit arrives.
