Another newbie looser can't figure it out!

Hi everyone. I'm really new to my Tomtom which I got second hand off a friend. I followed the thread "How to update Navcore" and successfully updated that, but now I need to updtae my maps and I've got stuck! I tried downloading a map update without success, at one point I downloaded a map for some other country!. I've also tried 'borrowing' a new Tomtom one (current model in NZ) for a retailer and copying the New_Zealand folder into my tomtom but it didn't work either.

I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

My Tomtom is a One and the infomation i've got out of it is:
Current Emulation: x40
BT: 0
TTS: on
Run in Save RAM Mode
Cleaning disabled
Devise
App 8.412 (1236/090403) OS:303268
32 MB RAM (free: 7.9 MB)
GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5019
Map: 'New _Zealand' v730.1990
Language: English UK
and the serial number under the case starts with PB

If you could help me update to the latest New Zealand maps and prehaps include IQ routes I'd be most greatfull.

Or..... I was thinking about going one further. Could I just copy all the stuff out of the 'New' One and paste it into my old One? Could it be that easy?

Thanks in advance
Dean

Remove the old map folder. Copy in the new map folder. Go here: FastActivate ENG 02.10.2010 {1.7} Read the instructions. Download the patcher & patch the new map.

OK so now I'm really stuck! I've done the above and now my Tomtom won't do anything. I've tried resetting it and I get a green screen for a couple of sec, then it resets does the bongo drum noise and freezes up on the Tomtom screen. Not only that plugging it into my Computer it won't reconise it as a drive of any sort?

Any ideas?

There is nothing associated with changing you maps, that would cause you problem, unless you copied the mapsetting.cfg file from the old to the new.. I see you have tried resetting the unit. Did you do a 30 second hard reset?

My unit does not have a reset button on the button like some of the other Tomtoms I've seen. So i've held down the on/off button for 30sec and now it somes up with a new screen that i've never seen again
It reads:
TomTom ONE (TM) (c) TomTom 2003-2008 Build 2000
Hardware type: TomTom ONE
SubID (feature) 0 1: 00 (0000000000000000)
Bootloader version: S5.5019 clist#198759 RVCT
Checksum: A7EF
Compiled at: Jun 10 2008 13:53:50
Memory: 32 MB
CPU ID: 32412003
Clocks: 264.000 132.000 66.000
GPS Type: GL1 int LNA
GPS Type: Sharp LQ0352Q1DG04
Internal FLASH capacity: 1003520 kByte
MMC NAND version (PRV): 1B(Samsung)
Startup mode: Power down
Device ID: PB4428K02041
Tochscreen calib. data: 92 929 116 897
Battery boot voltage: 3858 mV
RTC: 05:19:40 07/10/2010 <- this just keeps counting like a clock

This screen will only go away if I hold down the on/off button again

Any more ideas?
