Are the new maps 885 frying the circut board on the tt go

Thu Mar 22, 2012 5:58 pm

Has anyone else came across this.

TTONE xl 885 maps work fine on my unit but

Asked to update a tt go510 18 months old put the map onto a new sd card and installed into the the unit seemed to discharge as i didnt have the charger i gave it back for him with his bought map sdcard to charge as he charged it blew the power circut, told him that the charger had been faulty and let a 12v current through think the wire had been loose or broken
As he is a good friend i thought i would try and fix this problem
So i decided to go to ebay and buy 2 units 1 a tt go 910 with faulty hard drive, 2nd a tt go 710 faulty

Replaced the hd with the tt card reader 710 and installed a different 885 map on to the card working fine for a day then unit dischared but did not burn out the circut but will not switch on, green light charging not charging nothing

Messed about with the tt go 910 hd and found that the map was a 855 with fast active

My question is,has anyone on this board having a tt go updated to this new map and messed up there unit?

It's not possible for a map update to cause the problem, as you describe it!!

quick look around and found this on another site

I installed 875. maps on my TomTom GO 930 used the Fastactivate and now my TomTom will not even turn on. I connect it to my PC and still nothing. Can you help me is it still possible to save my TomTom?
N
TT go 510 has a problem with the 3rd wire allowing the 13 v to fry the circut board

have i been unlucky on 3 ttgo 510 710 910

I have bought a working tt go 710 working for a week with an old map going to install the new map and fast active and if this one frys the circut board

then there is a problem with updating

The X10 models are always problematic when it comes to unsupported NC's.
Another problem is the battery and charging system.
If the device is dead emtpy and a non genuine charger is used a too high current can blow a safety fuse on the circuit board rendering the charging useless.
You will still get the green light but no charge to the battery.
No matter what you copy/install on a TT, it can never cause a hardware damage!

Here is what happen when i installed the new map to the working ttgo710

Placed new sdcard ( new map unlocked to the unit and battery 100% charged) into the working ttgo 710 official nc
The sat nav would not power up tried a hard reset sTill nothing no green light) put it back to the old sdcard still nothing then recharged unit ,5 mins
hard reset nothing ,kept pressing both buttons quickly and it rebooted with the old card so i took the old one out and put the new one in restarted and at this moment it is still working

Anyone who has a tt go that has not worked after an update please post

I can fling any software/ sd card into tt one never a problem

garmin nuvi same as above

but the tt Go 510 710 910 nothing but problems

Had this reply from another source,

Its funny you should say that. I have been searching for answers to. I have had about 3 units come back now all faulty and blown, I installed the 880 maps on them and give them navcore 9 and now its seriously got me thinking! its either the navcore 9 or the maps that it cant handle surely?? its got to be! are you using a higher navcore or the standard one which is navcore 8. I have also made sure im using the correct boot loader.

For once I agree with td.....software CANNOT damage hardware..........simple as that!
Hardware faults/loose wires/over-voltage etc damages the hardware.

By the way, a device will only draw the current it requires irrespective of what's available (like a 120 A/H 12v car battery lighting a tiny, very low current, LED.

Self destruct programme from the Toshiba MSX HX-10 Home computer from the 80's went something like...

10 Motor On
20 Motor Off
30 Goto 10

Causes the tape recorder motor control relay to switch on and off rapidly and eventually burn itself out...

However in respect of Tomtom's, TD, DU & BD are 100% correct.
