Backup Question for TT ONE XL-S (or any other)

Postby Hippy » Fri Oct 07, 2011 6:02 pm

I have been using TT Home to back up my TT before playing with it but I've been reading here that all I really need to do is copy everything on my TT to a backup folder on my PC.
OK, that sounds cool and easy. Well, my first attempt at doing an update went very bad, my own darned fault, so I figured I'd just copy everything BACK to my TT or at least I thought I would. I did a select all, copy, and tried to paste to my TT drive folder, figureing it would just over write or ask if I wanted to over write existing files. WRONG. Windows told me that there was not enough disk space to complete the requested operation.
Good thing I did a back up with TT Home, it restored my TT to where it was before my ooopppsss.

My question is, when a person does a windows copy and paste to folder backup, how does one get that backup BACK to the TT since windows doesn't ask to over write existing files?

I did several searches and found lots on backing up but nothing on restoring from this backup.

Thanks in advance.

1. All of my backups are copy & paste, when I make them, then cut & paste, if I need to restore one.
2. Keep in mind that when restoring a unit with a backup, the desired result is to put it back exactly like it was. The only way to do that is to remove the new setup, before copying the backup to the unit.
3. Windows will only overwrite files that are common to both setups. There are always files that are not common to both & don't get overwritten, hence the disc space issue.

So what you are saying is if I was to delete all files off of my TT memory and then copy back, it should work. Correct? I thought of doing this but wanted to confirm first.
I understand the windows overwrite thing but when just trying to copy back and overwrite, it didn't seem to even want to overwrite files with a common name. That is what I'm used to.

Thanks in advance,

1. Exactly!!
2. Windows sees that there are enuf non-common files to have a disc space issue & stops the process.
