Best unit for my needs?

My TomTom 730 has died.
Is the 730 still the best model for use with custom navcore / maps etc?

Grab any X20, X30, X40 OR X50 that you can find.

I should have mentioned that I need to be able to stream music from the device via Bluetooth (A2DP). Is that possible with the any of these?

You should get a MP3 player with FM, they are under 20 bucks and make life much easier if you insist on music.
Unless you don't want instructions TT will always interrupt your music.

I NEED the directions to interrupt. I mount this on my motorbike, so FM is not an option. Only bluetooth. If the music doesn't pause or at least fade out, then I'll miss the directions altogether.

My old 730 worked in this way, sending both directions and music via bluetooth, but it died :(

From what I have read though, most of the newer models either don't have bluetooth, or don't have the ability to play music.

I may have to find a second hand 730 unless there's a newer model that will do this.

Nothing newer, the old GO series is still the way to go.

It's sad that the newer devices are missing features that the old devices had :(

Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

It is just marketing.
TT has the low end range with Start and some XL models, the mid range and the top shelf products.
The hardware differs a bit but as with the older devices it is hard to understand why features we loved and used for ages only now come back very slowly to new devices.
IMHO TT simply sold the new generations and used the customer to do the beta testing.

The GO X20, X30 & 940 have an mp3 player. The 540, 740 & X50 do not.

I just picked up an 'as new' in original box 730 for $15 + postage.
Gotta be happy with that!

Time to re-download some navcore.

That is a steal, if it is functional.
