Best Value TomTom? Help and Advice Please

Best Value TomTom? Help and Advice Please

Postby Disco » Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:37 pm

We currently have a (some will say), outdated NavMan ICN530

One of the options is to unlock and install new maps/software, but I thought I'd ask opinions about the best value Tom Tom currently on the market at present?

Can anyone recommend a TomTom for a UK traveller. We dont intend to use outside the UK, but still a little unsure of which TT might be the best value. Budget not really an issue, but < £125 would be great?

Thanks in advance
Dave

If you're happy to pay for your map updates then I would recommend the new Via 130 or the 135 if you want a larger screen. Both have voice control. Currently, you can get £20 fuel cashback meaning that both cost only slightly more than the lower spec Start 20 / 25 models.

If you want to update your map for free via this website then go for the XL IQ2.
You may have to update your software if future maps become incompatible with the software that comes with your device. I had to do this recently (via this website).

Navitotal does not recommend ANY of the following models. There is NO (current) way to manipulate/crack/patch/copy/clone or otherwise modify them.

GO LIVE 800 Series
GO 1000 Series
GO 20000
Via Series
PRO 7100
PRO 7100 TRUCK
PRO 7150
PRO 7150 TRUCK
PRO 9100
PRO 9150
PRO 9150 TRUCK
Start 20/25/40/45/50/55/60 Series
Blue & Me TomTom 2 LIVE
Sony XNV
TomTom Connect

[size=85]If you have no interest in modifying your device, then this does not apply to you.

cheers for that

If im looking to update with maps etc when the time comes, or install/add voices, does it matter if I have a external SD slot/card?

I know my original TT one used a SD card, but if sure of the current specs require one for this sort of thing

Some units have internal memory only. Some have external only. Some have both. Some with both can use the internal & external at the same time. Some with both can use either the internal or external, but not both at the same time.

Since you don't plan on using the unit outside of the UK, you can use any of the above. The largest UK map is only 225MB. 512MB of memory is all you need, be it internal or external.

Do you still have the ONE? If so, is it still functional?

1. Yes, you can install anything & everything on an internal, that you can on a same size SD card. The only limitation of an internal, with no SD slot, is it's MB size.

2. I was going to suggest that you breathe a little new life into it.

Since 2009 the minimum Internal has been 1GB.

Cheers Chaps.. We've narrowed it down to a Non-Live Traffic TomTom. Any recommends for a TT Sat Nav sub £125.

Just decide what you want to buy ;)
In the end it is your decision and you got the recommendations already.
