Can someone help a newbie please?

Postby collymonster » Thu Jun 05, 2014 8:38 pm

Hey guys, sorry for the total noob question but I'm kinda confused by all the info here.

I have a fairly old TomTom - model N14644 - which I think is an XL (30 Series)

I just want to get some up to date maps for western europe. I'm looking for maps but there seems to be several different types v7, v8 and v9?
How do I find the right maps and do I use FastActivate?

I would really appreciate some pointers...
Thanks

Firstly, the N14644 is not a model it's the Euro safety mark or somewhat, find out what your TT model is by reading all the writing on the bottom, if it doesn't say XL 30 series, or the writing is worn out, tell me just the first two digits of the serial number and I will tell you exactly which model you have.

I.E. M6, J4 or something, just the first two digits please, no full serial numbers or device codes.

If the serial number is worn out too, connect the device to your computer and open the file 'ttgo.bif' with notepad and it will tell you the serial number in that.

1. To see what model you have, go here: [Please Register or Login to download file] .
2. There aren't different types of maps. There are different EDITIONS. The first 3 digits of a map is the edition. The larger the 3 digits, the newer the map. 930.XXXX is the current edition.
The last 4 digits are for the different VERSIONS of an EDITION.
3. Run TomTom Current Configuration Post the results here. The info will help make a navcore & map update recommendation.

Ok thanks, appreciate the help. It's a XL 350 - 2GB TTS*

Current Config results:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom XL
DeviceVersionHW=XL
BootLoaderVersion=55274
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
ApplicationVersion=1234792.2
CurrentMap=
CurrentMapVersion=0.0
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

---
Now I did try to download a map last night but it would not work. I downloaded a few (torrents) but most were bigger than 2gb so would not fit. I found one that was 1.6gb, it transferred but would not work. After deleting there is 159mb of data on there. 1.68gb free of 1.84gb. So I need a map that will fit

I tried a version of fastactiveate but it was old and did not work. If you can point me to the right maps and how I cna get it working that would be great
Thanks for your help!

Based on your config info, there isn't a map on your device. Download & unzip 5601. Copy the unzipped map folder into your device & patch with FastActivate. If you elect to use the Automatic Installer version, follow the instructions at the top of the 930 map thread.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately the links don't work?
I found some different maps and used fastactivate and it seems to work fine - but its western europe without ireland and I'd like that too?
Does anyone know if there are working links for Western Europe with Ireland?
Thanks

1. I beg your pardon?? Maybe you better define "don't work"
2. That is what I offered to you in post 5.
3. It just so happens that I have the answer!! I checked ALL 6 PARTS, before I posted these links in post 5.

The Linksave site must have been down last night as it just went to an error page - it seems to be back up now. :)
Thanks

:) Appreciate the help - cheers!

Downloading now - wow it takes a long time! Out of interest why do you guys favour FileFactory etc for downloading? I assume you all have premium accounts. I used to have a rapidshare one back in the day. Are torrents not easier?
