okay, are you trying to use this tutorial?
Yes I know it's for XP, but 7 is about the same.
If so, does anything happen? Is a folder created at all?

1. OK
2. Good plan.
3. by map updates, are you referring to the new maps that come out every quarter or the daily map share updates for your currently installed map?
4. Details are needed to offer a solution. "i cant copy and paste files from unit" isn't enuf to work with!!

No, you don't have to, but you may want to change your navcore to use a better map. it depends on your current navcore & desired map. You have yet to post this device info for your XL.

What are you trying to do?
Are you trying to install a Navcore? ... a map ?
Your bootloader is fine, don't change it.

What are you trying to "manage"?
Keep in mind that we cannot see what you are actually doing.
You need to describe to us, step by step, what you are trying to achieve and what you are clicking on, etc.

I have a TT one XL too, I have it running with the "memory-boost" Navcore 9,510 [found here], which works like a charm.
There is a 13-step plan in [this topic] that you can follow.

Just search around on the forum a bit more, there is more info about the TT One XL :)

You have 2 options.
1. Stick with 8.010 & use a no feature map.
2. Up your navcore to 9.0XX or higher & use a better map.
