seems it is the bootloader that is the issue, but im confused as to how i update it, copied the 5.5128 system file to the card and the device still would not see the card, so how else can i flash the bootloader?

start it with your old sd-card if you have it ? and you see bootloader version. install new bootloader with this old card if needed
system file need to be only one boot in sd-card then you dont need it at all

EDIT: i see you must update bootloader

i use an sd card with a sytem and map on it with the updated bootloader insert it in any tom tom and it will update the bootloader file to the tom tom.
I then shut down tom tom and insert sdhc and it finds it every time
