SD card support

Postby userbb » Sat Jul 20, 2013 9:53 pm

Is it possible that my TT One does support a 4Gb SD card and not a 8 Gb SD card ?
I bought the working device with a 4Gb SD card in it.
I wanted to update the device on a new 8Gb SDHC card but the device doesn't recognize this card.

Is this a problem with the card or my TT device...

Device:
DeviceName=TomTom ONE
DeviceVersionHW=ONE (v3)
RamDiskVersion=20081205
BootLoaderVersion=50500
LinuxVersion=2344
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183

Your issue is with the bootloader, not the device. Bootloader 5.5012 & higher will support 4GB & larger SDHC cards.

After 3 years in this forum it is time that you at least start reading our tutorial section ;)

No, you don't understand this correctly. Yes, it is possible to update the bootloader. Download and unzip the attached copy of bootloader 5.5128. Copy it onto a working SD card. Put the card into your unit & boot it. After your unit completes booting, it should now see the larger SDHC cards.

Tendriver, Thank you for your help.
I'll try this and let you know the result.

Downunder35m, as I wrote you before.
The forum is so huge that you have put in the right search tags to find the answer you're looking for.
I every time try to search and read threads before posting but I can't search and read for weeks.
I visit this site when somebody ask me to help or when a device doesn't work anymore.
For me it's no daily job to work with navigation devices and I'm not a novice user at all.
So excuse me if I ask questions which I can't find.
For me it's much easier and quicker to ask the experts who know the answers right away or know where I can find the answers.

Anyway thank you all for your support.

I've read several threads and also the tutorials but the strange thing is that I bought the working device with a 4Gb SD card in it. Correct me if I'm wrong, this means that the device supports SDHC because the max of SD is 2 Gb even if the version of the bootloader is 5.0500 ??!!
Why doesn't my device support the 8Gb card ?

I've copied the 4Gb card to the 8Gb card and the device doesn't work anymore.
Putting in the 4Gb card and the device is working again.

If someone has an explanation of this you're welcome

The 4GB size is a "grey area" so to say.
Most no-name brands don't care about standards and produced 4GB cards in the SD stadard instead of the SDHC standard.
If your SD is not labeled SDHC it is most likely a normal SD but with 4GB.
So without apgrading the BL your TT still won't read the 8GB card.

There are 4GB SD cards available, they are rare though.

1. That 4GB card is not a SDHC card.
2. OK, you are wrong. Some of the first 4GB cards were not SDHC. Your's is one of them.
3. Because you have not updated the bootloader to version 5.5128, which was attached for you in post 5.
4. The 4GB card isn't a SDHC card, and the 8GB is a SDHC card.
5. The 4GB card isn't a SDHC card.

I know that I am repeating some info in Downunder's & Fatboyfun's post, but it is for other member's benefit, as well as your's. Hopefully, there should be no more confusion.
