There should be other important files in the SD card with new map. Could we examine them as well?
It means that we need full content of SD card along with the card parameters itself.
PS: the SD card ID is connected to the map version:
880 - AEA9-05F6
855 - 4E0D-F1F7
840 - 5E21-521C
and does not connected with the SD card size.

I'm pretty sure the activation was and still is linked to the SD serial number which can't be changed, the maps with DCT activation are linked to the device ID.
As long as we are neither able to patch the NC nor to generate genuine DCT files Carminat users are still stuck.

In this case, one would be able to use one SD card for the whole garage :)
There is something, which Carminate writes in the SD card after the map activation in the car.
It is this "something" has to be removed for the next activation. One need to compare the SD card content before and after the activation.

There are some interesting and strange instruction at the official TomTom forum ([Please Register or Login to download file] ) on how to repair Carminat Live navigator
if the internal memory is corrupted.
The instruction is force upgrade/downgrade such corrupted navcore in the internal memory by using ttsystem file (without .ib extension, like it is in the modern 9.845) in the SD root.
But this could work if the navigator is corrupted.
To corrupt the internal memory one need to switch off the electricity
at the navigator (remove navigator's fuse or stop the engine and open the door)
during its initial loading. One gay claimed that he managed to make downgrade
from 9.845 to 9.844 by such a way.
The question is could we patch the navcore by such a way?
PS: the size of ttsystem file from 9.845 is 50% larger than that for 9.844.
Thus, it's quite obvious that these navcores have too small similarity.

All SD that are sold by Tomtom are equal and can enter into any Carminat. Then once it is placed, the Carminat transcribes the file loopback.ex3 and from this moment the SD works only on that device.
I tried to make a copy of an SD virgin but this does not work on a new device. I think the volume ID of the SD does not matter.
Then inserting any blank SD card, it works on your device, but once it is initiated by a Carminat device, the SD works only on that device and the other leaves a message "this map is not valid, enter a valid map .. . "

Can you try to restore the content on the virgin SD? - will it work in new device?

There is an interesting thread in the official TomTom support forum. The thread is what to do if the internal memory of the Carminat Live is corrupted and the device is in the infinite restarting loop.
The working solution is to use ttsystem file from a navcore (WITHOUT its extension (.ib), if it is) in the SD root.
There are also advises on how to corrupt the internal memory :chok_mini:
Like to open the door when Carminat Live is loading (with the engine switched off, of course).
But it's probably too dangerous to be discussed here :)
One guy has claimed that he managed to downgrade the Carminate Live by such a way - from 9.845 to 9.844

Can you please provide links to those threads so I can check it out?

1) about ttsystem file in SD root (note that it's identical to ttsystem.ib from 9844.634510.Carminat_TomTom.cab):

I tried two times, but the moderator (you?) has censored them :)

Well, this is basically already known, but the problem remains that the NC itself can not be patched.
For that the image needs to be mounted, other files unpacked and again mounted to finally patch the corresponding file.
But after putting it all back together the checksums won't match and the installation is refused.
Some time ago I already created a patched 9.844 based on the above tricks, you can try if you want : [Please Register or Login to download file]

This is an anti-spam feature, the board hides posts with links so we can approve them or not.

Don't worry too much about it.

Janis made great movie on how to use the fuse while downgrading from the corrupted 9.845 to 9.844
