I don't think that le SD ID is the key or part of key, because when we copy the actual SD on an new SD with another SD ID, it works...

It is good to see that some carminat users are active now but it seems not too many area ctually reading what I wrote about the problem.
Who cares if the copy works or not if noone even bothers to mention if the activation works using a DCT or MCT.
I don't have a suitable device to test, so it is entirely up the users here, but without getting all valid infos together all I can say at this stage is :
Don't bother and simply buy your new map.

Hi, Downunder35m. You started the thread.
Sure, there will be reports if it would work. But what to report otherwise? (I checked and got negative answer).
The known things are:
1) The change of SD ID does not help.
2) The full original card content works even if the card is just copied "as it is" to another card
3) We cannot check whether or not the original content will work at another navigator since
there is no full content available to play.
4) Sure, it's possible to buy the new map, but does it a purpose?

The SD ID change turened out to be a hoax created by some french idiots in a Carminat forum.
Copying the original SD pnly works if the map is activated with a DCT if activated with a MCT only the original works as the MCT is is bound to the SD serial number - but with MCT the SD works in any Carminat TT.
You can access the loopback filesystem, unpack and mount it, with the right tools even in Wondows, otherwise the easy way is Linux.
Considering the special that TT puts out every now and than as a Carminat owner I would consider paying the bucks for a 4 year update pack....
What again is the costs for an oil and filter change? ;)

Hi. Of course, I meant playing only with mct and the original content of SD.
When I bought the car, first I copied all content of the original SD to another (microSD, actually) card.
The content was with mct! The result - the activation was fine with the microSD, despite another ID.

The cost of TT map upgrade is reasonable, but TT does not provide good maps for Russia (coverage of the last map is 52%: +2% during last year). Thus, I don't like to pay for nothing. Moreover, no LIVE feature works in my country - it's disaster.

Ok, just to confirm :
you copied a SD with MCT activation to a different SD and the copy works fine?
If so: did you copy the SD before the first use in the car?
The users so far report a copied map with MCT does not work.

Yes, before, look also in the posts #59 and #60

So the next test would be users sharing their new SD cards before first use - if they have a MCT.
Or we would need to find out what changes after the SD was activated in the car in an attemp to remove those changes.

Do you know when mct is replaced by dct ?
Does it in Carminat Live navigator during the first usage of SD card or in TT Home while registering the map?

It looks like the original SD card is modified/corrupted by TT Home while inserted into PC for the first time - the file system is inaccessible without TT Home usage, see
[Please Register or Login to download file] This is a trick.

1) OK, I did the same, actually
The question is will it work for the second time?
In my case it did not work (I tried recently my original SD with all original content) -
I suspect because I have an updated map of the same region and it's registered in the navigator internal memory, but I can be wrong.
Hello,
If a copy of the original SD did work the first time and not the second time, could be that, in the initial activation, the device does use of LIVE services to check with TT that the MCT hasn't been used before?
Do you know if the initial activation can be done without LIVE services coverage (for example from a deep floor parking)?

If you have an untouched original SD simply use Win32DiskImager (use Google) and make a copy of the new SD.
Write the copy onto a fresh empty SD and check if it works.

Hi. You can read in the link in my post #86:
"2. You have to launch TomTom HOME software first before inserting SD card. Otherwise error message will appear if you insert card first and then launching software (which is how this card is programmed to do and it doesn't work that way). I use Mac and it sees the SD card with no issue by doing it my way. The same goes with Windows user."
In other words, it looks that TT Home can only read the original SD card and make it readable in PC. I doubt that Win32DiskImager can read the original SD card without TT Home drivers.

As long as it shows up as a drive letter (which it must for Home to see the SD) you can clone the SD using the imager.
It is just about creating the files for the Carminat and activating the installation.
But again, I don't have a Renault and can't do any test, but if anyone wants to donate a Carminat for me....
