'Cloning' a patched device - chicken or egg?

Hi guys,

I have a fully working GO710 with updated BL (5.5250) and NC 9.205 suitably patched with full featured (patched) maps on a 8gb card.

I have ANOTHER GO710 that has a patched 7.903 NC with a 4.8600 BL and patched map (2gb card).

I want to make the second unit into a 'clone' of the first (obviously the cloning excludes unit ID etc) but the first stumbling block is the SD Card Slot: the second unit is SD only, the first has the later/inappropriate Bootloader which gives it SDHC compatability. The answer is therefore to change the Bootloader.

In doing so, I will also change the way the unit behaves in certain respects - I am aware of this and can live with the outcome!

My somewhat protracted question is this:

The quickest and simplest (?) way to change the second unit appears to me to be to copy the contents of the 8gb card excluding the B/L, the maps and the ttgo.bif, to a new 2gb SD card. Starting up the second unit will create the ttgo.bif and then I would then be able to re-patch the navcore.

I will then need to change the B/L to be able to use a full featured Europe map on a larger-than-2gb card. Am I correct in thinking "get the new navcore installed BEFORE attempting to change the B/L" or ...

Could I change the bootloader FIRST while still running NC 7.903 on a 2gb card? This would allow me to then go straight to a SDHC card and would permit me to copy the required maps across from the first unit at the same time as the navcore - the re-patching of the navcore and maps could then be done together. Or ...

Should I change the the NC and BL at the same time?

The reason for wanting to clone the working unit rather than using the Auto-install of the 9.205 Navcore is simply that over the last couple of years, the first unit has been 'tweaked' and 'tuned' to get it to near perfection for my own purposes and to have to re-configure a fresh install does not appeal to me!

Ideas, suggestions, criticisms etc welcome

1. OK.
2. Changing the B/L will not change the way the unit behaves in certain respects!
3. See point 5.
4. See point 5.
5. Copy the 9.205 B/L 5.5250 onto the 710 slot only 2GB card. Reboot. Now this unit will accept a SDHC card. Copy the ENTIRE contents, excluding the ttgo.bif, from the 8GB card to the NEW SDHC card. Copy the ttgo.bif file from the 2GB card to the NEW SDHC card. Re-patch the map. The navcore is not device specific & does not require repatching. Re-boot. DONE!!
6. See point 5
7. I understand your logic!!

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Cheers td ,

Thanks for the quick response and advice. It was so long since I 'upped' the last x10 that I'd confused meself - it is of course the new NC that causes the odd 'power on' behaviour, not the BL (you might say "different", I'll stick with "odd" :s016: ).
Anyhow, all is 100% done and working as hoped. FYI: I used Albert's activator - nice to see a new version on the site - took me back a few years seeing that again!

Thanks again mate :drinks:
