updating a one XL 4.3 " 1 gig internal hard drive
i connect to pc and no probs, but once i start to transfer stuff over to it i get the red x to says its transfering, but then after a short while(not long enough to get a map onto the device) it stops tranfersing and goes back to the connected to pc symbal
anyone had this before .I have found a work around by clicking my pc drive then click the TT drive and it starts transfering again but only for a short while again then it stops
thanks for any help

managed to use the work around to get everything across to device but now i have another problem the device will not boot
it came to me in working order but with no maps on even though the hard drive is accessable, but i made the cardinal sin of not backup what was there before deleting all the info
so i have installed 9101 navcore and 855.2884 uk maps, cause theres no TTgo.bif file when i try to patch it it cant. So i reboot the device and it just sticks on the tom tom home screen and no ttgo.bif file is created
wondering if its the bootloader cant tell what version it has is there a stock bootloader i can download to try
any help would be great

Thaks for the update, maybe you have a dodgy usb or usb connector in your device.

no dont think so cause when its connected the green light stays on all the time even when not switched on so it charges fine, it just seems to stop and start data transfer randomly

As a side note, the
green
lite does not indicate that the unit is charging. It only indicates that the unit is receiving power.

unit is working fine patched and everything and if for a friend so its not a big issue, just thought i would mention it incase anyone else comes across it

Have this same transfer issue with a xl330 and called TT support about it and was told its a transfer rate issue. Old units run the slower USB 1.1 and most computers are USB 2.0 or higher. Unit takes a "break" to buffer the data(absorb)and does this cycle still done the DL.

Your
2008 XL 330 has a USB 2.0 port, the same as my
2007 GO 720 has. Do a Google search for "tomtom xl 330 specs 2.0 usb".

I have a 2008 XL 325S (very similar to the 330) with 32 meg memory and 1 gig onboard only storage and I had the same problem with the unit "buffering" with USB 2.0 on every computer I owned until I hooked it up to my home system with a new MSI motherboard that has "Super-Charger" USB ports. On that computer I was able to transfer the entire backup in less than 25 minutes compared to nearly 4 hours with the other systems....
You could try using a USB 2.0 cord that has the 2nd connector for more power... I think (I could be wrong) that was my issue.
I had accidentally "bricked" my unit before I knew to back it up, and have since installed the SE 8.414 navcore (because the original navcore 8.010 through 8.083 don't seem to support the 880 United States map), added TTS voice Samantha, and now have a nicely working system (although I will be looking for more updates to Samantha)...
I also tried the version 9 navcores, but found that they slowed down whenever I tried to use TTS voices (which I love because it says street names which help me a lot when looking for the right turns to make).

1. US 880.3866 & US 880.3868 will run on every navcore from 7.9XX on up.
2. Samantha is a VocalizerTTS voice, which are the only TTS voices that do well on 32MB units. Unfortunately they have been made somewhat obsolete by the LoquendoTTS voices, so I wouldn't be looking for any updates to Samantha.
3. V9 navcores do not do well on 32MB units, except 9.205, which is designed for a "small" unit.

The USB transfer problem is usally caused by an incompatible bootloader.
Even USB 1.0 transfers in one go, just slower.
Are you using the original Navcore?
What bootloader is currently installed - check the ttgo.bif for that.

I got a 32 meg version of Samantha (the 21 meg version I found would not even try to say city names) from TT Home and have been very happy with it (and I have used it with versions from 8.010 to 8.414 very well)

I may try the 9.205 again now that I have a solid connection point with my computer. I think I will also try the samantha voice with it...
