hi,
Hoping someone can point me in write direction. Long story short. I've got one formatted GO520, tried playing with diff navcores etc and installing latest maps. No luck. So formatted again and hoped just to update device through tomtom home but it no longer connect. Hoping for one of 2 options or both.

1 How do i get updates etc through tomtom again then download latest maps etc.

2 Download navcore and maps from here.

Getting desperate now, got a long trip thursday. Any help would be great.

2.Follow these instructions here

• Guess you have nothing on your drive to backup as you formated , You should normally do a windows explorer backup here (Copy & Paste)
• Download Navcore 9.205 AutoInstaller from here http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2831-TomTom-Automatic-Navcore-Installation
• Run the .exe file with your TomTom connected to PC and choose to install to your tomtom drive,
• Boot your device and then turn back off (This creates the required ttgo.bif to use with the Activator to patch your map)
• Download Required map and copy the new map folder to your device root/sd root
• Run AuotoActivate.exe witch should be in your device/sd root with the rest of the navcore files to patch your map
• Done

Do voices go in sound folder or in folder of their own in root directory

Computer voices (LoquendoTTS or VocalizerTTS) go into theyer own folder in the root of your device labled appropliatly
Non-Computer voices including TomTom's Premium voices go in a folder in the root of your device called [color="royalblue"]voices[/color]
TomTom Premium voices will require Patching with a keygen i reccomend AutoActivate

I may have a potential hardware problem it seems to lock up alot while booting up. This was happening before i started messing with it. Also when connected to computer it sometimes locks up and computer no longer recongises hard drive, or computer prompts to scan drive for errors.

Try a hard reset and clear flash tool to fix freezing issues.

• Hold pin-hole reset button for 30 seconds
• hold on / off for 5 seconds (You should get a black config screen)
• Press pin-hole reset once to turn off
• Turn on as normall
• Run TomTom Clear Flash Tool 3 times

It might be worth mentioning that the computer may only want to check for errors because it recognizes the .chk files on the TomTom as recovered data from a Chkdsk operation. I never let mine scan.

You will get this prompt, if you don't disconnect your device from your computer correctly. Allowing it to scan is OK!!!

Thanks for your help. Spent bloody ages trying to figure out why map was greyscale. Either new navcore or map stays greyscale until signal is found. But running smooth now.

Done hard reset and after reading thread on here i used clear flash tool (3times). No freezing so far today. Curious its not a problem but is there a reason why i get startup sound sometimes and no sound other times. Just checking its not a warning for something else.

Yes you are spot on your map will stay grey untill the device finds a satalite lock, i also get sound sometimes on startup and sometimes not , its not a big issue so i havnt tried to fix it. hope the freezing stays away sometimes your devices flash memory gets cloggd up and causes freezes so the tomtom clear flash tool empties this

I get the start up sound after shutting down my unit, while still connected to the computer, disconnecting it & rebooting.

I think:

Creating a start-up sound


1. Record your sound in 22050 Hz Mono, with a sample size of 16-bit, using your preferred sound recording or editing software.

Tip: Your sound should be limited to a maximum of 3 seconds in length.

2. Save your sound as an OGG Vorbis file called splash(/w).ogg. There are many free conversion tools online that you can use to convert .WAV and .MP3 files to this format, for example, Audacity.

3. Copy the file to the sounds folder on your TomTom navigation device.

The new sound replaces the sound that was currently installed.

Similar for shutdown - antitheft(/w).ogg

splash and antitheft for 'regular' screens, splashw and antitheftw for wide screens. I got tired of the noise so deleted them.
