Did I blink and miss something?

Postby Macca-009 » Sun Sep 11, 2016 9:54 am

I've not seen any reference to this, but perhaps in my old age I am going blind or daft, but it appears to me that there has been some changes in policy at TomTom regarding maps.

Aside from the changes to some European 'zone map' area coverage which has already been discussed, it appears that there are other changes as well. For example, the August '16 series of maps are still designated with the same '975' series number as the May '16 update, when surely we would have been expecting '980' ? I also notice that for maps covering only the UK and Ireland, there appears to no longer be a fully featured map issued. Ironicly just as the UK is to leave Europe, we will need to use a Europe map to get a fully featured version for the UK! Perhaps there are other ff maps that have fallen by the wayside too - I have not looked for all of them.

Can anyone confirm my thoughts? (or correct my mistaken observations).

It seems a different build to me so I don,t exactly what you implying

ID=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland.pna
2094006704
970
build=7466
id=2286263

ID=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland.pna
2105228700
975
build=7685
id=2344785

About the coverage that it is no longer be a fully featured map
how you can noticed that.
i.e if you mean the coverige on there site 99% there are more maps with 99%

Maybe these day,s they are a little more accurate with there information.
On the other hand, 100% coverage seems unlikely to me.
So with 99 % coverage of the UK (BNL,Spain,France etc) everything is still the same as in the past.

1. I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion as the last few series are:

Feb 2016 = 965/966
May 2016 = 970/971
Aug 2016 = 975/976

2. Again, I not sure how you got there as there is as always a fully featured UK & ROI map which is United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland 975.7685. The meta was one of the first to be released here and you can download the map itself from [Please Register or Login to download file] (PW: navitotal).

TomTom did make a change to the designations of their fully featured maps this time though.
Up until now all of their fully featured maps had the same number (EG: UK & ROI/Europe/USA were all 970.7466) but now they've changed that by area to:

975.7685 = European high level map
975.7686 = Americas high level map
975.7687 = Oceania high level map
975.7766 = Mazda NB1 high level map

Hi fred,

To be honest, I am not sure either! I think I may have confused myself with the series number by setting up a 975 map folder (in preparation) immediately after downloading the 970 ones. That aside, it looks as though there is an issue with the cache in my browser for this site. I've been checking the 975 maps section for the UK one almost daily, but it has never appeared (until now). Also, my browser (Firefox) goes directly to this section of the forum and I think that when I move to the maps section, I am seeing was is actually incorrect/out-of-date content from the browser cache.

I've not noticed this problem with other sites, but then .. there have been other issues that could have been be caused by the same type of error.

Thanks for your detailed response, at least now I am aware of a potential hazard! Time to flush my history and brower cache methinks.

Regards,
Macca

You're welcome mate....you might want to try a 'hard refresh' if you run into these kind of problems which forces the browser to re-download the page rather than it reading from cache. I'm not sure about how you do that in Firefox but in IE you hit Ctrl + F5

Edit: I just checked & it's the same Ctrl + F5 in IE, Firefox & Chrome
