1. map only on the card? Or navcore & map?
2. You only have 300MB remaining free on the internal, which should have either 512MB or 1GB?

1. everything is internal memory. the memory card i have is actually just a san disk which i bought.
2. yes only 300mb thats the max size. 200 mb for UK and ireland map and the navcore.

What navcore is on the internal memory? What map is on the card?
Look inside the map folder on the card. Confirm that you see a .meta.dct file.

Ive managed to solve it. It was set to boot from internal and instead of external. thats why it couldnt detect the map from the card. thanks.

Just downloaded New_Zealand_855_2884 to replace 855_2883 on a One XL. Also downloaded FastActivate Light, followed the instructions, it appeared to work OK, new .dct file generated in the map directory but the map doesn't work. It doesn't appear in the "Change Maps" command. Any suggestions?

2884 is not compatibile with any navcore below 8.2XX. BTW, new maps will be out in a few days.

Ah, thank you. This stuff is really quite complicated! Now to search for an updated navcore - any hints?

It's really quite simple.

Make a backup.
Go here: TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation Read ALL of the instructions carefully. Select: SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices.rar (Widescreen ONLY)

Go here: 860 maps with installer and Fast Activate Read ALL of the instructions carefully. Select: New_Zealand_860_3101 29.6mb

OK, done all that, now have navcore 9.205 up and running. Works with my old 855.2883 map but the new one says "Problem with map You cannot use this map on this device: New_Zealand-254"
I noticed when it ran FastActivate there was a brief message saying missing file, but that's all it said and it disappeared almost faster than I could read it.
Any suggestions?

Further news! I ran FastActivate Light v 1.8 on it that I had downloaded before and the map now works!
I wish I knew a lot more about the internals of all this.

Your new map didn't get patched. Did you carefully read the instructions in 860 maps with installer and Fast Activate Screenshots and some explanations?
