FastActivate Discussion Topic

Postby rrd101 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 8:26 pm

I finally got up to courage to try FastActivate and it appears to have worked as my old One XL is now working with the latest map 855.2934. Many thanks to Pietu.

With that said. I'd like to mention some odd things (to me at least) that happened, but maybe they are normal. Could someone comment on these please?

1. PNGnavigator/ttsystem option created a new PNDnavigator but ttsystem was untouched. Is this normal?

2. I ran FastActivate from the root directory of my old device assuming it was only supposed to operate on that device. I happened to have both devices connected to my PC at the same time and when all was done I found my new deivce would not operate indicating that it's map was not authorized. I successfully recovered the new device using the TT Home Restore function. So my question is, does Fast Activate check for available devices and operate on all devices found?

Once again, many thanks to Pietu for this great tool.

1. Yes, it must just like you say (some navcore contain only ttsystem then fastactivate patch it)

2. Yes, do not use 2 device same time (if it not found bif file it can copy it wrong device)

I am curious. Why did you elect to download USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P 855.2934?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean because I've never stated here that I downloaded that map, or do you have some way of tracking those that download maps?

But yes, I did download it and that was because of confusion created by other posts talking about using bought maps. But after the long and painful process (6-8 hours over two days) of using FileFactory I thought I'd try using my own map and if it worked I could avoid FileFactory in the future.

Hello,

How do you do this please? I have version 1.6 Premium 14.9.10 but I can't see anything about this? How do I look in the meta.txt it uses. I ask because I have some voices and only certain ones worked, I assume some metas are missing but I want to check or indeed for other things in future.

Thanks.

open meta1.txt using NOTEPAD .....

but before you can do that, u mest see the file...

and to see it, just run FastActivate.exe,

click the button named 'Update meta.txt' (u must be connected to internet)

once done dont close FastActivate, leave it open,

and make a search in your PC for --> meta1.txt

it should find it in your TEMP folder....

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I had a look (using Windows 7) and the only thing that appears is a file called FastActivateMetaGet.exe. There is nothing else related to it.

When I run that program, I get an error due to no url which I don't know.

Aha! Inside there, W7 creates some extra .TMP folders with rather random names such as AB12.tmp. The req'd files can be found in there.

Thanks a lot!

Cheers. It's a great program but as a novice, I'd prefer some sort of 'save meta' [1] button even if it's just hidden on the file menu or something because if it doesn't work, you are left scratching your head as to why it hasn't worked with no pointer as to why (a missing tmeta or whatever). Having to trudge through directories whilst the program is running to locate the file is not very user friendly imo. No offence intended, I appreciate that simplicity is the programs attraction, but still...

[1] and maybe a 'load' to go with it if making changes.

If the program does not work , there is no meta available for the product yet, because we keep the online meta up top date ;)

Thanx for your suggestions. This program was designed to be simple & easy for newbies. Adding to it, defeats the whole concept of simplicity.

I tried to patch TTHome 2.7 on a Windows 7 machine with Fastactivate, but the tool -that works great on my maps and radarfiles- reacted witrh a 'did not find TT Home Profile dll' message. I had placed Fastactivate in the TTHome's main directory. I tried three times, always with same message as a result. Perhaps I made a mistake. Any suggestions how it could go working??
