Ok good, now you need to look at the page I linked you to above...it fixes the clock and the satfix: topic21253.html

i have done the gpsfix from within fastactivate is that the same thing?

After doing that ive gone back outside turned it on and its found gps signal pretty quickly.

Also i dont appear to have a problem with the time, the time is correct should i still apply that fix anyway.

Thanks

No, it's not the same thing but ok if it's working, leave it as it is...keep the fix to hand because you might need it later

Otherwise you're all sorted but you'll want to install the latest SpeedCams to finish it off

it All seems ok it just seems slow through the menus etc
Is that because of the 32mb limit, should i be better off going back to navcore 8.010 or am i being picky lol

Thanks

It's up to you really, it will be a bit slower (yes, due to the 32MB RAM with an advanced navcore) but it should be acceptable to use. Some people like to plan a long route to expand the swap file which they say improves the speed a bit but I don't know if that really helps.

I would give it a fair chance because you've got the latest advanced map now with all of the bells & whistles...if you decide to go back to NC 8.010, you'll have to use a limited featured map

The map really is quite stuttery though.
I just set a route pressed demo so it travels the root and it kinda looked awful compared to before.

What would i loosed if i reverted back to 8.010
The chart shows iqroute and hnr but do i really need these 2 or will there be more lost.

Thanks

Ok, you've never had any of those features before so you won't miss them if you go to a lesser navcore.

Back it up anyway and I'll give you another NC to try, it's a 32MB navcore but it's fast and a lot better looking than NC 8.010. Being as it's a 32MB NC you'll need to download UK & ROI 1050.10226 and live without the advanced features. Download NC 9.170 SE from [Please Register or Login to download file]

Re: FastActivate not working

So after spending much of the evening of trial and error with a few different navcores 9.541 is not for me. (Unless there are other 9.541 versions to try, i have found one on the net called 9.541_TZ but havent tried)

It really is slow and froze up and rebooted twice whilst trying it out.
Also whilst looking around the internet for things regarding this device it turns out mine has the sirf III gps and not the GL1
Many people have update firmware for this with much success, should i be doing the same (does this help the clock issue although i havent seen that issue yet when trying navcores out)

Also i see what you mean in regards to nc 9.170 compared to 8.010 the image has alot less jaggered edges on the map but 9.170 still is not that fast to be honest, its faster than 9.541 and doesnt lock up in the menus like 9.541 does but its no way near is fast as 8.010 is.

I appreciate all your help and many thanks for helping me with this, im almost there just gotta pick what navcore i feel works the best now and hopefully this gps sirf III update is a help.

I doubt that your device has a Sirf star chip otherwise the clock would be remaining at 0:00 and would be having problems with getting a satfix. The firmware update only fixes these two problems and has no impact on the speed of the device. The best way to check is to hold down the power button for an extended time when starting up your TT to boot into the boot menu as shown below. Note that in this example against the GPS Type it shows GL2 which is obviously a Global Locate chip and is unaffected by the WNRO so no firmware flash is needed.

The best performing navcore will always be the officially supported one for the device which in your case is NC 8.010, anything else is at the users preference. It sounds like you would be happier with 8.010 as it will give you the best performance together with a modern featureless map. Personally I wouldn't bother with it as it's a very old spec TT with a small screen and is practically worthless so I would upgrade it to a better model and just use this as a learning experience.

Hi,
I've checked the power button method earlier and it is indeed a sirf 3.
Since finding that out earlier I have updated the firmware for the GPS to 3.2.5 (it was previously 3.2.4)

Since doing that I've noticed outside my back door it's getting 9 satellites where as before it was getting around 4 so something has definitely improved there.

In regards to the navcore I'm more than happy with 9.170 it's just 9.541 that's unusable in my opinion.

If I can keep it working I don't see any point in buying another :)

Thanks

That's the first Sirf III chip'd device that I've heard of that hasn't had the clock problem but ok, at least it's improved the satellites if nothing else.

Yes, NC 9.170 is a good middle ground navcore so hopefully you'll get a few more years service out of your device

I've been using it fine up until recent getting lost because the map was so old, plugged it into tt home to update the map to find the product is discontinued.

That's what led me here looking for other ways to update my map, no other problems though with time etc but I must admit sometimes it took along time to get a GPS fix recently.

So for now I've updated GPS firmware to 3.2.5
Stuck with 9.170 navcore
Updated map to 1050_10226

Am I still OK to do the speedcam etc as you previously mentioned.
Also on the 9.170 lane guidance is greyed out, I assume that's because I have basic map. Can I not use another map at all that has lane guidance?

Thanks

Yes, you should install the speedcams
Yes, it's because you have a basic map for performance reasons...more advanced functions will consume more RAM and slow it down again however there is one other map with ALG but with ASR & Cspeech missing, you could try it out and see how it performs speed wise: 1050.10180
