Frustrated newbee, ONE XL

Thu Aug 26, 2010 7:40 am

I've got hold on a old TT ONE XL, 32MB RAM, and 4GB SD card.
Bootloader 5.136

I would like the device to:
- play mp3 files
- transfer/receive files via BT (to my laptop and cellphone)
- the new visual style from the 9.x navcores

on the internal memory (1GB) i have the 8.4012 Navcore, and it's set to emulate x40Light (setconfig.txt) - it works fine.

For the SD card I tried several other Navcores but there is always some kind of problem. BT don't work, can't play mp3, to slow, touch screen to sensitive and so on.

I'm not sure which navcore is the best - and what the difference is between basicpack, X, SE, DSA?
Which pack's shall i download, and in what order should they be installed.

I've tried NavCore 9.053 cab for One XL - BT work's, and it can connect to cellphone, but it is not able to transfer files. Jukeboks work's but mp3 stops after 1 secund, no sound (i have copied a file called mp3d to bin)

So can anyone help me? I'm, stuck...

I need a step-by-step guide.
Download these files...
1 - install this
2 - install that
3 - edit this
4 - copy that
..
99 - turn on you device - and enjoy the full power of your TomTom One XL :-)

PS. If you have not guessed it, English is not my preferred language :-D

Please post up here your ttgo.bif file for refrence, open it with notepad and post here, maybe this will confirm what version of one xl you have as there is more than one.

You can follow my guide here , this will upgrade you to navcore 9.205 the newest at the moment, This is a very easy to follow guide and offers you all of the files needed to get up and running, then when you have upgraded we can iron out any creases after with jukebox ect if there are any.

Can i use one Navcore on the internal memory and another on the external memory (SD card)?
Or should I use the same on both?

regards beta

Yes you can use diffrent navcores on both memorys,

A TT will Automaticly run from the SD card first, so...
 • If the sd card is inserted it will boot up that set up if available
 • If the sd card is not inserted it will boot from the internal set-up if available

I have not "installed" setconfig" or any of the files in switchfiles, or made any change except coping a mp3 file (4MB 192Kbps bitrate) to the mp3 folder, and some photos to the photos folder ect.

I managed to transfer a file to my cellphone via BT and revice one from the cellphone - due to other issues i'm not capable to test it on my laptop at the moment.

When i try to play the mp3 file in jukebox, nothing happens...

If I use the E-book reader to read config document it "says" the following:

Current Emulation: x40
BT: 1
TTS: on
Run in Save RAM Mode

Edit:
No ALG ? should i use another map? western_europe perhaps?

The map you choose (850.2802) does have ALG .

Extract this attached file ("mp3d") into your "bin" folder and then try to play mp3's again, remember to check your speaker prefrences also.

He has already done this as stated in post 1.

As far as I can tell, there is an mp3d included in the 9.205 basicpack i downloaded from the guide. I will try to replace it this afternoon. All sound is set to internal speaker.

I noticed, if I try to play a mp3 file - there is no sound at all afterwards, and the device have to be turn off/on.

When I use this Navcore (from SD card) everything seems very slow, compared to the internal mode - but I suspect it has a connection to the speed of the SD card?

I appreciate your help so far

Edit:
I noticed - if I run the the device without the SD card - the settings is changed in the internal version - and when i reinsert the SD card some settings is change to...

Update

mp3d exist in bin (same file as posted above).

Tried another SD card (SD HC) and it a tiny bit quicker... but still some lag, when searching for an address fx.

yes the speed issue could be sd card quality related,
can you confirm if you used my mp3d file and if it is working now, Please make shure your battery is charged when trying to play music or on charge

Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:22 pm

Thanks for your response

I've tried with the battery fully charged - and whit the device is on charge.

Don't know if it have anything to do with the "problem" - but there is less than 4mb free "system" memory. I tried to run the cleanflash tool several times, but it didn't release more memory.

This is because, as djc posted earlier, the SD card w/navcore has priority over the internal. With card inserted, you get the card navcore settings. Removed you get the internal navcore settings.

Still no mp3.

Will it help using setconfig to tweak the device?
- and which settings should I use then?

About the internal / external NavCore - i noticed, that a change in the internal navcore, sometimes have effect on the external SD Navcore

If you have FMoff set in setconfig, mp3 is disabled.

I have not made a setconfig file yet.

So status:
emulation = x40
BT works
ALG not working
mp3 not working
