GO630 - the TT problem child - only works with official (8.3

Mon Feb 14, 2011 1:00 am

Hi all,

After my beloved TT920 was stolen, I bought a refurbished TT630 for US$80 from Tiger Direct, then shipped to Australia using Ship USA. It arrived in January 2011 with 840 maps!!

When received, I backed up up the device using Windows Explorer (not TT Home), wiped it apart from ttgo.*, then installed 9.026 and Australia 860.3101 on an 8Gb SDHC card.

However the device was not stable, even after:
  1. Removing mapsettings.cfg from the map folder
  2. Clearflashtool at least 3 times
  3. Hard reset (which did nothing on the GO630)
I then tried another Navcore (8.412), however the device would not make it past the splash screen.

Downunder35m was very helpful by pm, and he noted also the GO630 is known for problems.

If you read the forum and seach "GO630", you'll see some threads peter out, which does suggest others have had the same problem and gone back to the official Navcore.

So: If you have a GO630, stick with the official Navcore (currently 8.351 at Feb 2011), you're not missing out on much apart from the slightly nicer looking menus, as well as the 2D/3D option + 3 panes on the status bar. This will save you hours of trying different Navcores like I did.

If you're thinking about buying a GO630 - don't. Just find any other X20 or X30 with SD card slot and you'll be a lot happier.

Before you give up, please try this version of 9.026.

Thanks tendriver!

The Navcore at least started, however the device became unstable after 10-15 minutes. It initially went from map (with or without a route) to the main menu. Just before the main menu shows, the map goes grey for around 2-5 seconds. I'll keep an eye out for a good used 720 or 920...the 920 didn't care what you gave it.

Your thread title "GO630 - the TT problem child" is quite true!!!

The only difference in a 720 & a 920 is the 920 4GB internal & bigger price tag.

Oke try it once again and use NC_9101_Full_Complete_Install_SE.
This is stable on mij 630.

I'd hazard a guess that your 630 was sent back for "refurbing" for a good reason... Not all 630s behave like that one.

Hi Willyroo, i also have a 630. Mine also works perfect with Navcore 8.413.1237
My 630 works very slow with the NC 9.XXX series and sometimes freezes.
Bye!

But it appears at least some do eh? :)

I couldn't find the NC_9101_Full_Complete_Install_SE referred to here - and to be be honest it works fine on 8.351 so I'll let sleeping dogs lie.

Thanks again team for help and suggestions :)

i just put a 8.398 truck navcore on a go 630 seems to be fine and truck map v860. Did it for a mate after tomtom home updated and some how emptied his truck map files. No idea why it did that but he's up and running ok.
You could have a rougue 630 so stick with the official navcore if thats working.

Your m8 is very lucky. The 630 has been problematic from day one. For clarification, TT Home can't do anything, unless it is told to.

I thought it was odd. He was not really up to speed with pc stuff and he had backed up using tomtom home which i told him was a big no no and when he tried to restore still had the problem of "No maps found" and when i looked in his map folder it was bare ,so how he lost every file i have no idea.
Told him how to back up using explorer so he should be ok if he gets any more probs.

First sorry for my english. I have a GO630 too, and I have installed 9.205.547817.1 navcore with "Western_Europe_865_3245" and it has always worked like a charm, I have never had problem with it. So maybe it will help you.
