Go720 Troubles with Satelites

Tue Nov 15, 2011 5:52 am

I upgraded the Navicore using: SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices. The navicore would boot and work just fine with my tom tom and read the original map just fine. I did not check for GPS signal.

I tried to install maps 860 3100 and 860 3101. I used an installer and I would get errors that the map could not be used on my device.

I restored from my backup the map directory. The tom tom started up and accepted the old map, and things looked good, but out in my car i see i have the NO GPS signal issues again. So I restored it completely. Still no GPS out in the car. I drove around for a while probably 5-10 minutes, and i Left it hooked up in the driveway for probably 15-20.

I want newer nav and maps, but i cannot get anywhere. I am doing something wrong. My last ditch effort was to use tom tom home to update to the latest files from official sources....

Here is what about shows right now:

App 8.351
64 MB Ram
GPS v1.20
Boot: 5.5120
Map: North_America_2GB - v705.1481

So what should do? Is there any specific reason I have these GPS signal Issues? Thanks for your help! Hope we can work through this!

So what should do? What versions of what should i try to use, and is there a place that i can get them? I am very new to Modifying tom tom software like this, though not at all new to computers or device modifications in general, such as routers, and cellphones etc. I don't know how to tell what versions of this and that go together. So far i have used installers for the tom tom files. Thanks for your help! Hope we can worth through this!

1. We don't need to know your 720's life history. Please edit this down to 1 paragraph of the essential info.

1. I've had 9.205 on a 720 for almost a year. 1 difference, I update using the .cab version & pre-patched ttsystem found in the Latest Navcores thread.
2. 860 maps are 4 editions out of date. For a 720, you want NA 875.3613 or United States 875.3613. I have both. The 880 map edition came out today, but it could take a week or so for the one you need to be available. I don't use a map installer. Cutting out the old map folder, copying in the new & patching it is not that difficult. The error message is telling you that the map did not get patched. After making changes, it can take a while to get the first Sat. lock on.
3. You were closer to success than you think.
4. MUCH better!! Thanx.

Suggestion. Get the map up & running with 8.351, then up the navcore.

Thank you for all your knowledge. It just seems odd to me that originally the TT worked fine, then i did a software update through TTHome, and it stopped after that. I had to goof with system files and write a backup from someone else to fix it. It feels like a bad software install. I actually found a thread on formatting and re-installing completely, So i did that just now, Its going to update back to the versions i provided you earlier. I am taking a 6 hour trip and will be hoping it gets a signal some time along the way, if it does, then ill move forward with your advice. Thank you!

1. We never upgrade navcores or update maps thru TT Home.
2. We never format, except in the most extreme cases.
3. Load your 8.351 navcore & 875 map. Patch them both with FastActivate Premium & you are ready to travel.

Thanks. I dont know what gets into this thing, from what i have heard from another member I might have to delete some files from within Tom Tom home and get it to download a new GPS Quick Fix file or something similar. I am already through my trip, i have an Android phone, so GPS is always in my pocket, i just don't like to tie it up if i can help it especially when i don't have a car charger for it.

Thanks for trying, it is good information i need to know, but i just didnt have enough time to figure out the signal issue before i had to go.

Thanks. I am home now, and i have downloaded this QuickGPSFix Update file, and ran it while my tom tom was connected. It looked like it did a few things ,the dates on some files in the ephem folder changed. I have the tom tom plugged into my house power out on my back porch. I guess ill just let it run all day.

Thanx for the update. On the rare times that my unit was slow picking up a signal, I found that rebooting worked better for me than waiting.

Hi again, Well here are the results from day one.

It say from 9 AM to about 5:45. It acquired maybe one satellite? Not sure, see the image...
I took it to dinner with us no more than a 20 minute drive. On the way to eatery, nothing. On the way back i got the same result as the image again a little over halfway back. So, i dont know whats going on here...

Is it possible for the GPS software to get goofed up and need to be reloaded? I don't mean the navigator software, but the software that decodes and reads satellite signal? the about says i have version 1.20 which i have seen in other posts... but i don't know what to think. Running for 9 hours without getting a lock? that doesn't seem reasonable or like a device that is about to work at all...

[Please Register or Login to download file]

Ill mention a few other things that are seemingly not right either about this thing, perhaps some how its all related.

When it starts up i get a white screen. Shut down offers the appropriate green image with the guy putting it in a bag.
When it starts up i do not get any sounds like it used to have a start up sound.
Seems to take some while to boot up, i dont remember it taking that long in the past.

Plan B:

Go to the Ephemeris folder on your computer. It is in the same location for Vista & Win7 C:\Users\My Name\Documents\TomTom\HOME\Download\complete\ephemeris
Delete all of the quickGPSfix files in the folder.
Connect your device to TT Home and it should download the current quickGPSfix files for your device.
Run "Update my GO" if it doesn't.
Check for a Sat. lock-on.
