Does anyone have any experience / advice with regard to installing a new Hard Drive into a GO910 ? I've located a possible source of the bare drives, but am wondering if the firmware/OS lives onboard the GO or if the drive would require formatting and/or some software pre-installation i.e. boot program, before being fitted.

If you find the drive then it is fine to change, as all the software is installd onto the harddrive. I think i seen a guide 1ce how to change the drive on a 910 i will search for it.

Thanks guys - if you're interested, the drives can be sourced quite easily as they are the same as those fitted to iPods and other devices. What I may also try (!?!?) is fitting one of the newer higher capacity drives.... anyone for a 80Gb TomTom ? :clapping_mini::rolling:

I've done a lot about it:
the name of the X10 (and the fonction) depends only of the motherboard.
Even you put a Sd card reader (from a 510/710) into a 910 it's seen as a 910.

For your answer: if you put a new hard drive
don't launch tomtom HOME
Make a FULL copy of all files on the old hard drive (if you can access them)
format your hard drive (if needeed)
Change the hard drive (watch this webpage + the video [Please Register or Login to download file] )
copy the backup on the new hard drive...

Thanks eiremanoffrance - therein is the trick to master! - I have no 'old' drive to copy! I will be installing SE Navcore and System files (with appropriate maps) to an empty drive. The idea of transplanting an SDHC Reader appeals to me as a 'fall back' though ... interesting idea and one I had not considered. This 'project' is one of exploration rather than necessity - the prospect of a 20GB (never mind 60 or 80 !) combined TomTom / MP3 player at a reasonable cost is very attractive.

What I know when a hard drive (or a sd card) is empty (but already formated) is that when Tomtom home detect you device (throught the motherboard),
Tomtom Home will download the right Navcore (but not the map)
Then you have to find by your the corret map

My only unknow point, is if your hard drive is not formated/partitionned. But I guess the device will do it itself.
But I will know it soon (I'm trying to repair a 910 with hdd default by on ebay).
If my repair don't work, I will buy another hdd

I am a little surprised by what you tell me - never having tried to restore a missing navcore using 'Home'. You have taught me something that I did not expect to learn!
