Go910 strange boot behaviour

Go910 strange boot behaviour

Postby woodshedfred » Sun Jul 08, 2012 10:26 am

Hi,

I have a Go910 which I installed NC 9.205 on in Feb 11. I was somewhat naive at this point wrt all things TT, and I installed BL 5.5259 which came bundled up in the 9.205 archive.

The upgrade was somewhat successful, but the device has always had a boot problem - sometime it would be fine, other times it just did nothing, and you had to do a reset to coax it back to life. This was kinda fine, but a pain if you're out and about and you can't find the magic paperclip!

I'm off on my holidays across Europe next week, so I thought I'd see if I could sort it out before I go.

I installed SE 9.430, and the Europe 890.4222 map, and all appeared fine initially. The boot problem had gone away, and I was a happy chappy.

This morning I try to boot the thing and the problem is back - I needed a reset to get it back on. Next time I tried to boot it, it was fine. I would say that it won't boot in about 40% of starts.

I'm really worried I've got an incompatible BL, but don't really know how to find out or what to do next.

TTCurrent Config gives the following:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 910
DeviceVersionHW=GO 910
BootLoaderVersion=55259
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=890926.2
CurrentMap=Europe_2GB_890_4222
CurrentMapVersion=890.4222
TTGO.BAK:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 910
DeviceVersionHW=GO 910
BootLoaderVersion=55259
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=890926.2
CurrentMap=Europe_2GB_890_4222
CurrentMapVersion=890.4222
TTGO.ORI:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 910
DeviceVersionHW=GO 910
BootLoaderVersion=55259
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9430
ApplicationVersion=890926.2
CurrentMap=Europe_2GB_890_4222
CurrentMapVersion=890.4222
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

My setconfig.txt switchfile is as follows:

model:x40
bton
fmoff

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Woodshedfred

According to your ttgo.bif you have the original 7.903 NC installed and not the 9.430...
Since your device uses a HDD and no flash memory it could well be a faulty drive.
Do you have the same problems with the original NC?

Reverted to my original backup and everything appears to be working fine.

However, current config is as follows:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 910
DeviceVersionHW=GO 910
BootLoaderVersion=55259
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:

TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:

No, he has 9.430 installed as shown in .ori. His .bak is set for 7.903, causing his .bif to read 7.903

You have the wrong ApplicationVersion value set in your .bak file. This is causing your .bif file to also be in error. The .bak should read:
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183

After correcting this error, your .bif will read correctly.

You will notice that, without the incorrect .bak value, the .bif values in your post 4 are correct.

OK, Tennis over, Silverstone GP over, time to rebuild the TT again!
I'll report back in 5 mins.

OK,

Fresh install of 9.430, seems to boot ok (at the moment).

CC:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 910
DeviceVersionHW=GO 910
BootLoaderVersion=55259
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9430
ApplicationVersion=890926.2
CurrentMap=Europe_2GB_890_4222
CurrentMapVersion=890.4222
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

I'm not sure why the missing files aren't there; I just don't understand the boot sequence well enough. When should they be created?

Any ideas what to do next? Thanks for your posts so far.

This .bif file is correct. Normally it is the only TTGO file that you need. The .bak & .ori files are only created to solve problems, such as TT Home telling you that you have the wrong navcore version installed. Unless a problem arises, your 910 is all set & good to go, just like it is.
