Had to ask for help TT XL [Solved]

Postby siddu_j143 » Tue Jun 23, 2015 1:46 pm

Hi there,

I had to come and ask for help, please either help me or point me in the right direction as my TT is lying next to me with a sad face :022:

1) Took a complete backup of the TT, wiped it clean
2) Updated my TT XL navcore using downunders universal navcore installer and chose the "9.510 for the XL series", downloaded the cab file "9.510.1-2039.CAB-navcore-GO.cab" and extracted to the root of TT
3) Restarted the TT, it started fine and obviously got no map message
4) Installed the "United Kingdom and ROI 950.6544_Installer.exe", restarted before patching the map using latest Fastactivate and was able to see .meta.dct in the map folder
5) Restarted TT and I get this classic error message "cannot use this map"
6) Did a ton of reading on this forum and did all these to no luck:
  • ) Placed the ttgo.bif inside the folder and ran fastactivate, patched map and navcore, restarted TT: NO LUCK
  • ) Replaced the ttgo.bif with the old file (from back up) in the root and ran fastactivate, patched map and navcore, restarted TT: NO LUCK
  • ) Placed the ttgo.bif old file (from back up) inside the map folder and ran fastactivate, patched map and navcore, restarted TT: NO LUCK

What am I doing wrong?

I am able to connect to TT Home and able to operate my device fine

ttgo.bif:
DeviceName=TomTom XL
DeviceVersionHW=ONE XL (v9)
DeviceSerialNumber=RMxxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=55136
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
ApplicationVersion=1234792.1
CurrentMap=
CurrentMapVersion=0.0

Map(s):
D:\United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_950_6544\

Storage:
Size 978MB, Free 641MB

Delete the ttgo.bif file from your device. Reboot to create a fresh ttgo.bif file. Open it with notepad. Copy & paste the contents here.

BTW, in the mean time I got a reply, I tried my luck installing a couple other compatible maps:

apart from the first installed map: "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_950_6544", I now installed
  • "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_945_6243" and
  • "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_945_6174"
ran the fastactivate, all three maps are patched (.meta.dct present in each folder) but when TT starts and asks me to choose a map, none are usable error message :040:

UPDATE: I am able to connect to TT home and operate my device and switch among the three maps and all of them are working fine but, when I disconnect, restart the device and choose any map "You cannot use this map" error message :013:

1. Notice the 2 bold & enlarged lines in the new ttgo.bif contents (post 4). Your device is not seeing the maps. What link did you use in post 1 point 2 to download Downunder's 9.510 navcore?
2. Operate my device is just an emulation/simulation & should not be used for troubleshooting.

  1. Yes, I noticed the missing information and tried to edit it manually already (as a part of trying and fixing my problem, I compared the new ttgo.bif to the one I took a backup and found this data is missing) to
    CurrentMap=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_950_6544
    CurrentMapVersion=950.6544

    for the United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_950_6544 map, saved it, disconnected the TT, restarted the device only to find the ttgo.bif overwritten with those two lines reverting back

    I even tried my luck with the other two maps as well changing the lines to:
    CurrentMap=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_945_6243
    CurrentMapVersion=945.6243

    Saved the file, disconnected the TT, restarted the device and once again no luck and also the the ttgo.bif got overwritten

    CurrentMap=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_945_6174"
    CurrentMapVersion=945.6174

    Saved the file, disconnected the TT, restarted the device and once again no luck and also the the ttgo.bif got overwritten
  2. I have downloaded the UNCI after reading this post and the link provided
    navcores-9-for-tomtom-devices-f124/universal-navcore-installer-t14168.html

You can't edit the ttgo.bif file. A new one, with the current setup, is created every time the device is booted.

Yes, if the unit functions with the setup in the backup. Then post it's new ttgo.bif file.

Please could you let me know how to make sure that my ttsystem is patched (I ran the FA.exe from outside the device and gave the TT path to patch the navcore, restarted the device but no luck. Tried copying FA to device root, patched the navcore and restarted the device, no luck. Copied the FA to the map folder, patched the navcore by giving the path to TT root and restarted the device but no luck) I am sure the map is patched coz I can see the .meta.dct file, likewise should I look for some file to make sure ttsystem is patched?? help please ....

Here is the ttgo.bif file from the backup restored onto TT

When you select FastActivate option 3 (the option for patching the navcore), FastActivate will tell you if the navcore is already patched or not.
Have the 890_4234 map & 8.083 navcore been patched?

Yes, both the map and the navcore are patched and are working fine (meaning, TT just went back to what it used to be)

Let's get your map updated first, then we can work on a navcore update.
From this point on, follow my instructions only. Do nothing on your own.
Download & unzip a fresh copy of United Kingdom and ROI 950.6544 (Not the installer version).
Remove the 890.4234 map folder.
Copy in the fresh 950.6544 map folder.
Run FastActivate option 2 to patch the map.
Disconnect & reboot.
DONE!!
