Has anyone managed to upgrade the Navcore on a TomTom start.

Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:15 am

Hi all
Has anyone managed to upgrade the Navcore on a TomTom Start to either a full v8 ie v8.417 navcore or a better v9 navcore with a full change preference menu and a naccore that works with ALG as i have tried and cant get any version to work fully exept the one for the Start but that one has limited menu and wont let ALG work with with compatable ALG maps.
At the moment i have v9.053 on my start but it is a very basic version but i have put a better version of 9.053 on my TomTom one v4 but when i try to put it on my Start all works fine but i just can not get any sound at all.I have tried everthing but cant get any sound / speach at all.
If someone can make a working vavcore that will work on a TomTom start and has all the settings and will make ALG work can they please post a copy.
Thanks.

Not sure if it works ok on a Start but you can try the 9.205, it is for the Rider but should work on your device too.
Make a backup using the Windows Explorer first!

Copy all files and folders from the archive to the root of your device/SD card.
It is best to have a device without a Navcore installed. Maps, voices and other personal stuff can stay on the device.

There are no Loquendo voices included and I think it is best to use normal voices for the first try, you can experiment with TTS if everything else works fine.
If this Navcore is a no go for you too than you can only try the Dark Mireille version for the Start.

Loosing sound is a commen problem with some of the newer devices with new simplified menu structure when you change the navcore to enable the full menu look. there is a work around by creating your own custom menu with free menu building software

connect the tomtom to your pc and use explorer to browse to the tom tom.
right click on the root folder and create a new folder and call it SdkRegistry.
This is case sensitive. Now copy the text below into notepad.

Hi,

I just bought a Tomtom Start2 and would like to know how to install a Western Europe map?

I ve tried to read forums and tutorials, but still not sure of the correct procedure to follow...

Can someone help me or direct me to a 'safe' place?

Internal memory = 1GB or 2GB?

Internal memory of 2GB.

What would be the steps to upload new maps on the Tomtom Start 2 - given that the memory size is sufficient?

THanks in advance!

I have tried this on a START works very good, but no sound, and the GPS insists to configure the bluetooth headset and can y can not cancel....
