Have you made a backup and checked it?
Always in the root of the device/sd card.

And with newer Navcores the function to turn on/off with power was discontinued by TT.

You are correct.
A ttgo.bif file did appear on the SD Card after the device was booted up.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused (as usual). What I was trying to say was that when the power cord is attached (car or computer), the TT will not turn on when I push the on/off button. Are you saying that this is normal with my new configuration?
Also, will any USB cord work when charging the TT.

The function to turn on/off a TT with power was discontinued by TT due to many problems (loose contact can switch off the TT when going through a pot hole). So nothing you could do to change it ;)
Any USB cord that fits into the connector will work, the docking station is nothing more than a USB cord with a stand.
Only devices with a special connector for docking need the original cord.
