1. Confirm that you do not have the Switchfiles.zip, readmenot or Outsourced.9205 on your internal. If you do, delete those 3 items.
2.. Yes you can delete your old map folder.
3. Depends on what you decide to do with #4.
4. Yes it is possible, but not with the NA map that you dowloaded. It is to large. You will need NA 2GB 860.3101.
5. NO.

Upgrade Tut

Postby c0mputer » Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:35 am

How to upgrade maps for tom tom go-720
1.back up
2.download
3.patching operating system (navcore)
4.patching maps

1.BACKUP
a. any windows computer should do the trick
b.click open my computer folder
c.go to folder properties and clikc on view-> to show all the hidden files in your computer
d.when you can see all the hidden files in your computer u will be able to see hidden files in your tomtom as well
e. plug your usb cord in a usb port and then connect your tom tom with the usb port and start the device
f.it will ask if you want to connect it to computer clikc yes and it will connect to your computer
g. after it being detected by your system u will be able to see what is there in your tomtom gps ‘s internal memory which is 2gb with almost 1.5 gb full
h.click on the drive latter (say X) which is for tomtom’s internal memory and click copy on the tomtom ( so that you can download all the files from the tomtom while maintaining root folder integrity
i.copy whole tomtom folder to your desktop or anywhere safe (in case things go wrong ..)
j.now you have successfully completed the backup for tomtom ‘s internal drive and ready to proceed
MAKE SURE TO KEEP YOUR TOMTOM CONNECTED ALL THE TIME TO COMPUTER for further processing
2.DOWNLOAD
a.your are going to need an updated map file (functional component-BODY ), an updated operating system file (THE BRAIN)(navcore) and patched ttsystem file (THE HEART) AND an activator file (THE SOUL)
b. download latest map(body) : North America 860.3101 [1751.3MB]-for now as of 2010-dec.
c.download latest navcore(brain): 9.205.rider3.CAB-navcore-RIDER.cab
d.download latest patched system (heart): X_ttsystem.9.205.547817.1
Note always make sure to download same version of brain and the heart(9.250) otherwise it will not work .
e.dowanload latest map activator(SOUL) : AutoActivate 09.01.2011 {1.5.03}

3.PATCHING NAVCORE
a.extract BODY in a 2gb sd card of your choice pre formatted with fat partition named SDcard
(fat32 sometimes does not work with some cards FAT works ) with a win rar
b.extract BRAIN in a folder named 9.205.rider3.CAB-navcore-RIDER.cab and you will see lots of files in that folder on your desktop
c.extract HEART in a folder named X_ttsystem.9.205.547817.1 on your desk top and you will see 6-7 files in your folder
d.extract SOUL in a folder named AutoActivate 09.01.2011 {1.5.03}
e.now the real thing begins …fun time starts now …
f.go to my computer and open internal memory of a tomtom by clicking on tomtom icon (will name it Y drive for right now)
g. go to desktop and copy all the files from BRAIN to the root folder of Y
(open 9.205.rider3.CAB-navcore-RIDER.cab folder in your desktop and click ctrl+a and then click ctrl+c to selct all the files from that folder to paste (ctrl+v) in to your tomtom’s (drive Y) root folder .. after that u will have lots of files in your tomtom ‘s root folder .
h.now look forone files called ttsystem in your tomtoms root folder …this file is the heart of the tomtom.dont do anything right now …next
i.open the folder named X_ttsystem.9.205.547817.1 on your desktop and copy two files from it
1.ttsystem and 2.PNDnavigator file these two files are needed for heart replacement
j.open tomtom’s root folder and paste these two files ..see ..it will copy PNDnavigator but it will ask you to replace and overwrite ttsystem ..click copy and replace the 4mb one to 7mb (4mb is the patched one u need that file in the root folder in order to make PDNnavigator work …(this whole thing will delete your original old heart to a new heart )
k. your heart and brain is working now ..umm wait do not disconnect your tomtom yet ..nope(you do not have body and soul yet…
4.PATCHING MAPS
a. we do know you have 2gb sd card preformatted ready and already in your tomtom ..
b. and if you open sd card you can see that your sd card is almost full with one folder(called North America 860.3101 ) and its content inside ..that is your body … all you need is a soul .
c.copy file called --- AutoActivate- from your folder named AutoActivate 09.01.2011 {1.5.03} on your desk top to root folder of the SDcard where you have folder named North America 860.3101(do not copy inside the folder copy it cotside so that your SDcard has two things 1.BODY 2.SOUL

d click on the activator –windows 7 needs right click and run as an administrator ..let it do its magic .ok when done finish ..
disconnect the tomtom and reboot …enjoy your working tomtom with new body, mind heart and soul

Thanx for the time & effort. If I may make a few comments.
1. It is way too wordy. You lost about half of the newbies in the 1.BACKUP section. We try to use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) method.
2. All of the 64MB RAM memory/4.3" screen devices, such as your 720, are upgraded the same way, so we don't specify model type.
3. Different devices use different mps + new maps are released every 3 months, so we don't specify a particular map, unless we are doing a one on one, as you & I have been doing.

Our tut looks something like this.

  • • Do a Backup before attempting any upgrade using windows explorer and always check your bootloader version if it is a 1x bootloader do not go any further consult a member of the TomTom team here first.
  • Download XXXX.cab and copy the complete contents to your device/SD card, overwriting any common files
  • Download pre-patched ttsystem file & and copy the only the ttsystem + PNDNavigator (if present) to your device/SD card, overwriting when prompted
  • Download your required map (Check the map/navcore chart to determine compatibillity) Unzip & copy the map folder to your device.
  • Download the current version of FastActivate and copy the .exe to the root of your device, Run the .exe to patch the map. (If the keygen does not create the required .dct or misses one create another file also in the roor called mymeta.txt) and inside place the meta that is required and then run the .exe again)
  • Done
