help me please!

Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:50 pm

Hi,
Really and truely stuck with trying to load tom tom truck maps and navcore onto my ttgo710.
(I am using a mac, and cross over windows emulator to do this, which possibly isnt helping, but its all I have to hand)

Main problem is, I can dock my tom tom with the mac, and with the original tomtom sd card inside it, it works fine (i can view files on explorer etc). however, when i insert a different sd card, the mac will not recognise it at all, plus the tt device thinks theres no sd card inserted. have tried a few different sd cards to check.

I cant use the original tom tom sd card for the truck maps as its only 128mb! so have had to use a fresh sd card, which i have put the 880-3845 maps and 8.39x navcore on (using winrar to extract it all). ive then insterted it into the tom tom, with the intention of activating it. this is where i am utterly lost, especially as my mac and tom tom wont recognise an sd card shoved up its arse! (i have tried it on a neighbours windows pc with no joy either).

I will admit im a complete newbie when it comes to this (eg not entirely sure what 'root' file is!)

Any suggestions as to why i cant get this to work? I had an idea of using the original tom tom sd card to load on the new navcore but to be honest im not entirely sure which files are the navcore files!

just to add that i have read through everything i can find regarding this and it has just made me even more lost on the matter.
my broadband speed is extremely slow, it took 6 days to download all 12 parts of the map! they seem to have downloaded ok but cannot guarantee it. no errors appeared when using winrar.
apparently some tomtoms dont like using 4gb sd cards? dont know how true that is.

ok so i have tried it again on a windows pc but with no joy.
i honestly cannot say that i know what i am doing, im good with most things but for some reason i am completely stumped when it comes to this! Ive hacked satnavs before (not tom toms though, and not on a mac before) but just seem completely stuck with this, might be something obvious that ive missed.

You are on the right track. It isn't the TomTom, it's the navcore bootloader, which must be version 5.5015 or higher to read SDHC cards.
Look in navcore 8.398 for a file named system. Copy it to your small card. Reboot the device. Now your 710 should see the SDHC card.

First you need the 8.398 Truck Navcore and the SE ttsystem - you find them in the Navcore section.
Second you need the current Truck map - guess you're still on it.
Third you need FastActivate to activate the new map.
If using a SDHC card you might have to update your bootloader - the correct file should be inside the Truck Navcore.
It is called "system" but might be renamed to "system5.5120" to avoid exidential installation.
Put the system on a normal SD and reboot, you will see a short warning note and after the TT finnished the boot you will be able to use big SDHC cards.
Hope that helps you.

I need voice control here, typing is slow to beat TD....

It's not a race - see it as double service for the user.:rolling:

cheers guys, its looking hopeful now! Done the thing with the sd card, so now the 4gb one is recognised. just adding navcore bits and pieces and the maps, so see how we go.

Navcore 8.395.1913 WORK inc. Truck - for Go7000, go520/720/920, Go530/730/930

[Please Register or Login to download file]

SE_ttsystem.8.395.1913.rar

thats what I've downloaded from the navcores thread. Hope thats the correct ones.
Ive extracted it all and put it onto the new sd card, just letting the tomtom charge up in the car before going any further yet, as it wont turn on after updating the bootloader (have a feeling the battery is low as it hasnt been charged for a while).

So, next step as far as I can tell is to insert the new sd card (with new navcore and maps on) into tomtom, attach it to a pc, then run the .exe file. Then once thats done, i run AutoActivate.exe to install and activate the maps?

1. Truck Navcore 8.398 is current as I said in post 4 & Downunder said in post 5.

2. Put on the card, the navcore, the map with patcher & a copy of your device's ttgo.bif file. The navcore is pre-patched. Run the patcher, to patch the map. Done.

balls. better download 8.398 then!
so literally just put the navcore, map with patcher and ttgo.bif file on the card, and run the patcher and then put the card in the tom tom?

Yes, that's right

Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:34 pm

ok so all downloaded, unzipped and on sd card. The only .exe file i can see is called TAASE.EXE, do i need to click on that to get it working? Or do i need to download autoactivate or fastactivate?

edit: apologies - just re-read the topic and need fast activate.

Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:55 pm

actually can't see why i need fast activate, as the maps ive downloaded come with an installer and patcher. ive made sure theres a copy of the devices ttgo.bif file on the card before running the TAASE.exe file, which then activates the maps and gets meta data by the looks of it. seems to go ok, and no error messages as far as i can see.
once its done its job, and the sd card is insterted into the tom tom, it boots up and then says "no voices available", and then "problem with map - you cannot use this map on this device: Europe_TRUCK-463". Any ideas where I might be going wrong?
