Hide your speed cams from the police

Sun Jun 20, 2010 1:12 pm

I have created two little scripts to "hide" files on your Tomtom.
The purpose is to be safe if you are in country where the use of speed cam files is illegal - like Switzerland.

Unpack the files to the root of your device (or SD card).

In the current configuration it won't work!!
You have to make some changes :
Edit the files move and move2 with a Unix Editor like Notepad++ and change the two lines before the reboot command!!

mv Australia/*.ov2 Blitzer/
mv Australia/*.bmp Blitzer/

That means you change "Australia" to the name of your map folder!
If you don't change it it won't work! ;)
The best option is to copy these two lines and replace the "*" with the name of your poi files.
This way only the cam files will be moved and all other poi's will stay active.
If you only have a few poi's it won't matter but for 100 or so it will take a while to "hide" them.

The names and images for the menu icons can be changed too.
I assume you know how to change a picture...
The text under the icon is changed in the corresponding .cap file:
Again open with a Unix capable Editor and change the last line :

COMMAND|CMD|hallo|move.bmp|Blitzer weg|

"Blitzer weg" is the text under the icon - for the other icon it is "Blitzer Da!"
I hope you will find it useful ! ;)

Please check if the folder "blitzer" was created - if not do it manually otherwise it won't work.
If all is correct you will find two new icons in your menu :)

Thank you very much !!!!!!!!!!!
I have one question:

If I hide radars, and later on "show" them again, I lose settings for radars in "Warn when near POI", and I have to set them all over again manually. Is there any way to avoid this ??

Thanks again for great work !!!!!!

Regards

TomTom Official speedcams warnings are not set in Manage POIs, Warn when near POI. They are set in TomTom Services, Safety Alerts, Change warning preferences.

I know that, but I put them as a POI (Official speedcams don't include Switzerland). I use "POI Speed Camera Database".
I would rather use Official speedcams + Switzerland (in POI), but I couldn't find regular update for speedcams in Switzerland.

Did you find a solution to have the updated versions of speed cameras in Switzerland? I found one older file for the speedlimit that has them, but nothing newer.

Hello,
I understood nothing.
You can make a video on youtube of how to do that?

thank you

What do you mean, make video?
You are not seriously asking for video on to edit a text file?

The purpose is to be safe if you are in country where the use of speed cam files is illegal - like Switzerland.

I changed my France speedcams to a picture of a shovel and renamed the poi as "Archeological site"

TomTom has issued LEGAL French Warning Zones updates, instead of French speedcam updates, since French speedcams became illegal on 01/01/12. It is no longer necessary to "hide" them.

I did that when I went to France earlier. I don't "speed" but even cruise control can drift over the limit. The shovel was "to dig your own grave!"
