Current navcore for a XL LIVE IQ Routes Edition is 9.465.

Confirm that you have 2 GB internal memory & no SD card Slot.

As long as you have enough free space you simply add the next map and activate using FastActivate in the latest edition.

If you have enough space you can just leave the original map files in your device. Just copy the new map folder into your device and follow normal procedure activating the map.

You might want to take a full copy of your files in the device's memory for backup reasons.

It all depends on whether you keep your 8420 navcore or you update to 9.465, the current navcore for your device.

I would update to 9.465, the current navcore for your device. TT Home will do it for you.

I recently bought the TomTom Go live 550

It has navcore 9.465 installed.

I tried to install a newer version of the UK map already installed ( 875.3613 )and selected Uk and RI map 900 4602.

Checked the Navcore compatablity chart and was ok to install.

Tried first of all to install on a 2gb microSD card.(to fit in the tomtom memory slot)
On the card, formatted by fat 32 , I copied the ttsystem being used by the internal memory ,added the file ttgo.bif and the meta file. ( All this was done with a card reader , not done with the tomtom itself )
I extracted the map to the card and the dct file was created in the map folder.

I put the card in the tomtom memory slot and although recognised , said unable to use this map on this device.

I then tried to install the same map ( 900 4602 ) on the internal memory.(enough free space to install another map beside the existing)
The dct file was created but when I tried to change maps on the device , I had the same error.( unable to use map on this device )

I am not sure what to try next.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare the micro sd card before it can be used by the tomtom ?

Any advice appreciated.

I see no reference to patching the 9.465 navcore.

Are you using the auto-install version of 9.465?

I just copied the ttsystem file from the tomtom internal memory.
Just ran fast activate and selected patch ttsystem.
Started tomtom and then selected change maps and selected the new map 900 4602
The map started ok.
Now I have a problem with the tomtom rebooting every couple of minutes without touching anything.

Any ideas what might be the problem ?

The navcore 9.465 was the original navcore supplied with the go 550 live.

Thanks

1. OK
2. Did you copy the "patched" ttsystem file back to the 550 internal?
3. OK.
4. If this is happening with the card inserted, then remove the card.
5. You wouldn't like my answer.
