How to tell if updated postcodes have 'taken' ?

Postby aneng » Sat Mar 26, 2016 6:02 pm

I've just updated my WinCE type Nav running 7.910 Navcore to use the latest UK maps and I've also followed the instructions to put the latest postcodes file on there, ('zip' file in the root of the SDcard).

How can I tell whether the updated postcodes have taken effect ? I tried searching for postcodes of new housing estates to see if they were in there, but it's not proving conclusive !

Cheers !

You have to put the updated (v965) UK zip files (or postal codes) within the folder zip in the device's root.
There are only three available zip codes available: UK, NL and Singapore.

If you are still only able to enter 4 digits, the updated postcodes are not working. If you can enter the full postcode, you are good to go!

Generally each successive issue gets bigger, presumably as additional postcodes are added to the file, but interestingly, at least as shown by my PC, the UK postcodes corresponding to issues 960 and 965 are identical at 9174kB...perhaps there have been no updates in the last quarter!

Well, this isn't the first time I've updated my maps but it is the first time I've ever added this postcode zip file. I've always had full seven digit postcodes, so I can't use that as a test. Neither can I go by the size of the zip file, as there wasn't one there previously.

I have no idea whether mine is even looking at the new zip file or not.

Presumably some change log exists somewhere indicating what has occurred with the update?

If the size of your UK file is 9174kB it would confirm you've got 960 or 965 and the difference, if any, between the two will be subtle...only another couple of months to wait for 970!

Why would I quote it, if I hadn't read it??
The postcode zip file/folder is not an update. It is a FIX, that you don't need, if you can enter a full 7 digit postcode without it.

Of course you have read it Tendriver, but I think you're missing the point...
There is no obvious way to tell whether the installed file is up-to-date ie 965 or very much out-of-date. Provided the Tomtom derived mod has been added it will accept 7 character post codes (with 3 central numbers) but will not indicate the age of the zip file.

OK, let's see. The title of this thread is: How to tell if updated postcodes have 'taken'. The question is repeated in the body of post 1.
Do not my posts 3 & 8 give a full correct answer to the question?

I find this quote to be very offensive. We don't deal in "very much out of date" material.
Here are the links for the 965 postcodes. See for yourself.

Calm down dear! I was under the (perfectly logical) impression that it was an update rather than a fix. Why is this fix needed? It seems bonkers that any SatNav would come with just four digit postcodes.

Also, why does the fix need updating to match the latest map versions? (also leading the novice to think it was a postcode update).

1. To correct the issue of not being able to enter a full postcode.
2. It is not an on going issue with any particular unit and/or map.
3. You have answered your own question.

"I find this quote to be very offensive. We don't deal in "very much out of date" material."

If you have read my note you have not understood it. I stated INSTALLED zip files not "available on Navitotal" zip files

If the fix was achieved by an earlier Zip version, why are successive updates generally larger than their predecessors? Surely it's because new postcodes are added as new buildings are erected on new streets which are reflected in new maps?
